Question:
Will I ever be able to drink a beer again after surgery?
Also, after an open RNY, howlong will I have to wait to resume a normal sex life? That's really more for my husband! :) — Andrea T. (posted on April 30, 2001)

Well, you may be able to drink a beer someday, but you'll have to wait and
see. The carbonation is a killer! Also, alcohol effects us 3 times postop
what it did preop so be aware of this and be careful. 'Normal' sex life?
Hmmmm....well, you can start probably 2 or 3 weeks post op to have sex if
your husband is VERY careful and delicate with you . . . but you'll have to
determine what 'normal' is. LOL!

I was allowed alcohol 2 weeks post op, (though I didnt dare). Some doctors
do not want their patients having anything carbonated, especially in the
beginning since it may stretch the pouch. I am allowed diet soft drinks
though. As for sex, as soon as you feel up to it, go for it!

As for resuming a normal sex life; my surgeon only said to "please
wait until I discharge you from the hospital!" LOL

Ahh, a subject near and dear to my heart. The alcoholic beverage. I miss
having a periodic cocktail more than anything. I have not tried them. Too
afraid. Even being 3 months post op. Letme know how you do. As for me, I
will stay away from them... at least for the time being.

I am 3 months post-op and I enjoy an occasional bud light. I get the 8 oz
can and drink one every so often. Never had a problem with it.
