Question:
Is rice protein powder a good source for protein?
Today while at a healthfood store a lady gave me a sample of some rice protein powder mixed in apple juice. It tasted good but seemed a little low on protein (15 grams per scoop). I was wondering if anyone else has heard about this? Is it as absorbable as whey? Any ideas? — Cindy M. (posted on February 3, 2004)

I don't think this is the best type of protein, but if it is the only one
you can handle, go for it (although be aware of your labs - you might have
to switch).

Rice has a relative bio-availability of 59, while whey and whey blends have
bio-availability of over 100. The higher bio-availability the better your
body will absorb and be able to use it.
