Question:
hello all! i'm notorious for asking these types of questions...but i hope you can

help. i'm one year post op rny (1 year yesterday!) and my question deals wiht food amounts..how much etc etc. how much should we be eating at once? typicall i have 1.5 eggs nad a piece of toast for breakfest, tuna sandwich made on light wheat with light mayo, about 2.5 ounces tuna and a small salad with light dressing for lunch (usually about a cup and a half of lettuce, i know that doesn't equal much), an apple for a snack and then..well, whatever for dinner..but is that too much for one sitting? i shouldn't be stressin'..but some days i feel like i can eat TONS of food! thanks for all your advice! heather 340/147 RNY 12mos post    — hdziema (posted on November 21, 2003)

i am only nine months out and i find that i am eating more lately but not that much. I can barely eat 1 egg and one peice of toast. 1/2 of any kind of sandwich (only). I can eat 3oz. tuna and maybe two crackers. About a half cup of salad if it doesn't have much in it. As far as the apple. i can eat 1/2 of a large apple. i thought i was eating too much.

doesn't seem bad by volume at all (maybe even a bit low for 24 hours at 1 year postop), but are you supplementing your protein, because that looks mighty low to me.

Looks to me like you are heavy on the bread and light on the protein. How much protein do you get a day? I don't eat sandwiches very often - even with wheat bread - way too many carbs. In fact, I'm almost two years out and I've had 5 sandwiches in the two years. Otherwise I think you are ok if you are getting at least 40 -50 g of protein

I am 13 months post op and for breakfast I usually have 1/4 c cottage cheese with a 6oz sf yogurt or a 2 egg omelet with a little cheese and maybe 1T of salsa (but no toast). I can eat 1/2 can of tuna (2.5 oz) with salad. For dinner I might have 4-5 oz of one of these: chicken breast, steak, seafood, or ham plus 2 pieces of brocolli or 2 stems of asparagus. Sometime during the day I'll have about 1/4 c of walnuts or almonds or lo-carb ice cream. It sounds like we are eating the same amounts, though I can't eat a whole apple.

I'm 11 months post op down 120, I eat more small meals like every 2-3 hours. I end up actually eating more than what you eat.
