Question:
Atkins Shakes
Has anyone tried the Atkins protein shakes? I've been sampling a few to see if I can stomach the taste of them prior to surgery. I've found some yummy ones. Love the coffee flavored one, strawberry sucks and chocolate is pretty darned good too. Are these shakes acceptable to utilize post-op? — Frvsnt O. (posted on October 21, 2003)

I'd like to know more about the Atkins shakes -- I'm pre-op (but I have a
date!!). I've tried them but they make me feel light-headed, tired, and
nauseous. Has this happened to anyone else? With just the Atkins shakes
or all shakes?
Sorry for piggy-backing off your question, but I was wondering. Thanks.

Yes, the Atkins shakes are perfectly acceptable for post op. However,
don't go bying a case or anything until AFTER your surgery. Your tastes
will change. I loved the chocolate and capp., hated the strawberry
(EEEEEWWWWW) just like you. Now, I find that I dont like any of them- TOO
SWEET. My atkins shakes sat in my fridge for a long time after I tried to
gag them down. I finally passed them off to a friend.

I haven't tried the Atkins shakes but if they taste as good as the endulge
candy bars, I will buy it in a heart beat. The candy bars are soooo good.
It satisfies the taste for chocolate only two carbs.

Too rich for me, always make me dump-y. Peggy, that sounds like what
happened to you.

Like the others have said, your tastes will change. I also had to give mine
away post-op. I vomited all of them. Plus, they just tasted too sweet/rich.
Some of the watery ones are better, like Worldwide Pure Protein Cappuccino
flavored. I just bought 1 at a time of bunch of different brands. Whatever
I couldn't tolerate, I pawned off on my husband (he's sort of dieting right
now). Good luck!

I have used the Akins shake since my surgery on 5-7-03. I love the
Chocolate Royale. I have tried others but the Atkins products are great.
Their bars are great too!

Hi... I just found the Cafe Au Lait Atkins shakes and I love them. I am 6
weeks out and these really help when I am on the go.

I love Atkins Shakes, I am 14 mos post op and recently switched to them
from the Isospure Zero Carb Fruit Punches that I was drinking. Although
they don't pack the same punch in protein as Isopure (40 oz, 160 calories,
0 carbs, 0 sugars, 40g of protein), 2 cans of Choc Royale (my fav) or
strawberry (2nd best) are 340 calories, 40g of protein, 4g Net Carbs and
ARE VERY FILLING! They stay with you as the Isopure's nade me hungry 1/2
later. Vitamin SHoppe and Trader Joes has the best prices, $6.99 for a 4pk.

I switched to the Atkins shakes a week post-op because the Ensure &
Boost my surgeon suggested were too sweet and were elevating my blood
sugar. No such problems w/Atkins. I'm 8 mos. post-op and the Atkins are
still one of my favorite choices, along with Real Meals.
