Question:
What is the effect on caffeine on weight loss?

I'm 4 months out, and have approx. 4-5 cups of coffee (black) a day. Will this caffeine cause problems/slow weight loss, etc..,???    — jengrz (posted on March 16, 2003)

Caffeine can mess with your fluid intake. For every 8 ounces of coffee you would need to take in 12 ounces of water to keep your fluids up. It is dehydrating. If you are having weight loss problems you might want to cut back on the coffee and drink more water or non caffeinated liquid. Good Luck!

Caffeine has been shown in studies to increase your metabolism. I am 6 months post op and drink at least 1 diet soda a day because of this. Also, if you are a person who drinks caffeine on a regular basis, it doesn't dehydrate you because your body is used to it. It only dehydrates you if you don't normally drink it a lot.
