Question:
what the heck has happened to my taste buds, nothing tastes right
For some of that I am grateful, like carbonated drinks are awful now. I was drinking at least a 6 pk/day prior to surgery and had not had one since the day before surgery until my MD said that I could try it---Ugh!!! It was worse than the pre-op prep. I am OK with that, but now that I am on a regular diet and trying to get in my protein, nothing tastes the way I remember it and I am really sensitive to "how fresh" something is. It reminds me a little of early pregnancy. It is like almost nothing tastes good. I am all for eating to live and not living to eat, but..... I almost dread meal times now. I love the water though. I get about 80 ounces a day. So what it up w/ this anyone else have this experience??? Thanks — Leigh S. (posted on January 26, 2003)

This is VERY common, especially if you're newly post op. Your taste buds
may never learn to like pop again, but you may find that food starts
tasting 'normal' again in a few more weeks. I have tried diet Coke a
couple of times and it just tastes awful to me. I used to drink it all the
time. I still like Crystal Light, though, and I used to drink it too. Go
figure.

Hi, Leigh. I am right there with you. I am 5 weeks post op and nothing
really tastes good at all. I am struggling with my protein and my water
quantities and "freshness" is definitely an issue too. From what
I have been reading, we should get our "taste" back after 2-3
months. This is perfectly normal... and no fun at all! Good luck with
your weight loss!!! Hang in there... we'll make it! :-)
