Question:
How do I maintain weight if I cant eat meat?

Hello all, I just need to know how to stop losing weight. I am pretty comfortable where I am at 140 and after I get my tummy tuck next year I will lose an additional 10 to 15 pounds, I am eating other protein like eggs and fish but my stomach is not going for the meat. What else can I do to maintain my weight?    — Lovett (posted on December 24, 2002)

my best suggestion for you is to talk with your surgeon and the dietician. You will need to maintain your protein, and you may need to up your carbs, but with your history of obesity, "gaining" wieght, or even "maintaining" it is better monitored by professionals so that you do not fall into old habits, or become malnourished because of poor food choices. After all, if we knew how to reat properly in the first place, MOST of us would not have become obese to start with.

What about chile? How about cutting all meat into pencil eraser sized bits?

I do not prefer meat, so I don't eat it daily. I prefer veggies, actually. I will eat the same thing for days on end. Lately it's been what my husband calls "turtle guts sandwiches". Ewwwwwwww. Black olives & cream cheese on black bread with lettuce. OMG! My protein is chocolate. My weight has been pretty steady (5# swing) for many years now. I use protein for protein, real food for fun. I have to ask if you have been scoped to see WHY you tolerate no meats after so much time. I know many do not in the beginning, and some never do certain ones. But ALL meant makes me wonder if your mechanics are "fine".

Tina, have you tried a stewed chicken, one that has sat all day in a crockpot and falls off the bone? You may be able to tolerate that. Meats/poultry have so much protein in them, its a shame you can't enjoy. If you can't you may be stuck with the protein supplements.

I have this problem some and I use the Carb Solutions protien bars and some protien drinks. Make sure what you do try that there isn't any sugar in them. Maybe this will help.
