Question:
Can anyone help me learn to eat???

I am 5 months post-op and I am at 154-155 depending on the scales day. I feel like I am not gonna lose anymore weight because I am at my 75% weight loss and my weight loss has slowed down to just about a stand still, I still have a problem eating, I don't eat meat anymore because my stomach can not tolerate it and when I eat it I have a really bad upset stomach. and am eating more salad and fruit then anything. I do eat BOCA when I can find it on sale but my nutrition is very poor, I have found that I eat apples and salt on a daily basis, I guess it is a craving and eating a whole apple gets me full and I don't eat again for another 2 hours. I have never dumped and I can eat sweets but I do limit the amount of sugar I put into my body. I am a little aware of how much natural sugar is in those apples, can anyone tell me am I a normal post op or is anyone else having the problems with eating a healthy protein meal or a nutritious meal?    — Lovett (posted on October 9, 2002)

Have you tried other forms of protein, like a broiled or steamed fish, or shellfish like shrimp and crab? Chock full of protein. And have you tried a poultry that is cooked in a crockpot so that it falls off the bone and is just so juicy that its easy to get down? If so, how bout protein supplements? Like protein shakes/bars? It doesn't sound like you are getting in enough protein, and altho fruit and veggies are good for us, and staying away from sugar is also OK, you need to have lots of protein in your diet. Great weight loss for 5 months, though!

In my support group we are told to go back to the basic's when the weight stops--to be sure to drink all of the water and eat protein.....

I put my beef in the crockpot when I get home from work, on low, let it cook all night, and the next morning I add water, veggies etc and let it cook all day...being so tender it's much easier to eat...

hello. i worry about your protein intake...your body needs a lot of protein for nutrition needs with the malabsorption. there is nothing wrong with eating apples but it sounds like you need more protein. protein shakes are great and most are pretty sweet so if you have any kind of sugar craving they would help fill that. i have a lot of high protein recipes - if you like to cook. most are really easy and they are delicious! also, i use jarrows iso rich soy protein powder which is the only protein powder you can cook with - you can even add it to cottage cheese, yogurt, applesauce, cream of wheat...and boost your protein intake. let me know if you're interested in the recipes or more info about the jarrow's. {hugs} kate katebme2002 open rny 6-14-01 pre op: 268lbs goal: 135lbs current: 126lbs
