Question:
What kind of things did you have to send someone out to the pharmacy for?
My surgery is 3 hours away from my home and I need to stay in a hospitality house for 1 week after discharge. Unfortunantly, I will be staying alone. Therefore, I will not have anyone to go out to get me things if needed. What kind of things did you have to send someone out to get after the first or 2 after surgery? I want to be sure I bring anything I possibly need. THanks. — Debbie W. (posted on September 13, 2002)

Children's chewable tylenol- the liquid elixir has tons of sugar in it.
You will need to read the label to make sure you are getting the normal
adult dose of 650 mg [it's probably like 5 tablets]
Baby wipes..make life easy, even if you don't need them for a couple days
post-op for your rear, they're still a nice pick-me-up before you can
shower.
Bring your own pillow(s) you'll rest better
Soft clothing with no waist if you can.
Good luck!

Debbie, extra large undies that don't bind at the waist. I also went out
and bought a fan, and a electric heating pad it helped a little with the
pain. ( I had a epidurl) sp I know is wrong but close..., The heating pad
really helped days after the hospital it was the only way I could get some
rest in, It also helps with the changing of the body tempatures, (one
minute 1 was hot the next freezing cold) go figure. Best of luck and love
to you.

My hospital is located 2 hours from my home. My hospital has a pharmacy in
the lobby. I had my surgeon write my prescriptions and when they wheeled
me downstairs upon my discharge, they stopped by the pharmacy and I picked
up the prescriptions I needed. I already had a small bottle of Extra
Strength Tylenols with me. But I needed more for my pain so all was good.
:o) Also, make sure you have a pillow with you for your ride home. It
helps with the bumps on the road. And yes, I needed a fan the whole time I
was in the hospital. Funny thing is that I'm cold all the time now.

The one other thing that I found to be a lifesaver was a
"grabber." It's a long stick with a squeeze handle on one end
and pincers on the other. You squeeze the handle and the pincers pick up
whatever you need. So, if I dropped my book or water bottle, I could pick
it up. Bending over was too painful at that point! Best of luck on your
journey!!
