I have been eating Wendy's chili, here and there. I am 6 weeks post-op. I
made some 'tofu' fettucine (sp). It turned out okay. Of course there's
the diet jell-o pudding, yum yum. I haven't done this yet but thought I
could make taco meat, without the taco. Also I thought of making enchilada
meat, without the tortilla.

At that stage, I was addicted to Taco Bell's lf refried beans in a can. I
heated them up in the microwave with a little cheese on top. YUM! Also
try the cottage cheese baked in the oven with a little sphagetti sauce on
it. Good Luck!

I am almost 2 weeks post op and I have been eating the following:
scramblked egg w/ cheese, refried beans w/ cheeses, cream of potato soup
with cheese, mashed potates, ricotta cheese, black bean soup, and PEANUT
BUTTER (try a spponful, very high in protein, and gosh does it taste good).
I want to start experimenting too, but, have been a little scared. I
dumped on SF popsicles and hate jell-o and applesause. heather (post-op
8-15, down 21 lbs)

Cook! I did so much creative cooking.. and continue to do it... I work at
finding the highest protein lowest fat.. and tasty meals I can find. I've
cooked a tamale pie like casserole with lots of gr. tueky breast, beans,
tofu and just a bit of corn meal (when I eat it, I avoid the corn meal)
also I covered it in low and no fat cheese... I've cooked some marvelous
chicken curry.. again, with added tofu.. *thinking* gr. turkey
meatloaf...for a treat I cook a piece or two of turkey bacon in the
microwave and use that with some egg whites..I've made a lot of good things
with turkey breast filets.. using fresh tomatoes, herbs and squash.. just
cooking it all up together. For my partner I cook rice or pasta, so she
enjoys it, and I just eat the meat I've made. I also make very low fat
high protein good tasting chili... I use four kinds of beans for interest
and again, fresh stuff. I think its important to take advantage of the
fresh things right now. Not sure what's good in your area, but cooking
with amazing varieties of fresh tomatoes and herbs is a treat for me. Good
luck!

I have a suggestion that had helped as I started adding more solid foods to
my diet. Actually, I still do these things quite a bit. First of all if
you don't have a crock pot GO GET ONE (they even have small ones)! Almost
any type of eat that you put in the crock pot will cook your food in a way
that will be much easier for your new pouch to handle...especially chicken!
Some of my favorites are: Chili (ground beef, pork, turkey, chicken..you
choose), Beef Stew (minus the potatoes if you like), Italian Chicken, pork
tenderloin, BBQ beef (just watch the sugar on this one), roasted skinless
turkey breast and Mexican chicken with stewed tomatoes, corn, onions and
black beans. I try to use my own combination of seasoning so I can keep
control of the salt, but in a pinch, I have found the seasonings for some
of the McCormick meal in a bag packets are fabulous for the crock
pot...especially the italian chicken, mexican chicken and turkey breast.
All of these meals can be customized to any serving amounts and they all
freeze well, too. Another one of my favorites is Red Peppers stuffed with
Ground Turkey...YUM! When all else fails...experiment! You will find
that your senses are enhanced and that you may like some things that you
didn't before and that you will thoroughly enjoy the natural tastes of
foods liek fruits and vegetables. Good luck and happy cooking!!
