Question:
Could I be overeating already and not throwing it up???
Yesterday, I began to get so tired of the proetein shakes and mash potatoes that I just had to eat something else. So I went and got ate some Kellogg Frosted Flakes. About a cup and a half I had, and I ate it all. I didnt throw it up either. I'm about 2 and a half weeks post op, and am wondering if I may be doing some damage by eating that much or is this normal? — Miko P. (posted on February 7, 2002)

Don't worry. Mushy stuff like cereal, mashed potatoes, etc. go down easy.
There's nothing wrong with you, but I would avoid eating these high-carb
foods regularly, since they're also high in calories. Good luck--

I would have your surgeon to a upper GI.. It is POSSIBLE that the opening
from your stomach to your intestines DID not shrink after surgery; and that
the opening is 'to large'... THIS will NOT fix itself.. and basically
renders your RNY useless. I was able to eat 1/2 cup post. and NOT throw
up.. my surgeon was surprised... 6 months down the 'line' he finally did
the test.. and it shows my pouch is not being used at all... I have NO
LIMITS to food intack, so basically I have to 'watch' what I eat.. size
wize. Surgeons are aware of this problem. but DO NOT fix it nor do they
tell their patients its a possible complication.

dear annonymous: My surgeon uses a silastic ring at the bottom of the
pouch to prevent this. If your surgeon refuses to remedy this, try another
surgeon. I never could understand how folks were eating so much. Thanks
to you, we now know. I hope everyone asks their surgeons about this preop.
