I am a brittle diabetic and having problems controlling my blood sugars. I
have lost 52 lbs since my surgery on Nov. 8th, but was told to eat three
meals a day too. My blood sugars range from as low as 38-285. I take
insulin on a daily basis an am working with an endrocronoligist to regular
my blood sugars. My diabetes was one of the main reasons I had the surgery
as well as for the weight loss.

My doctor said to drink some orange juice if I feel shakey or light headed.
I have never been diagnosed with hypoglycemia, but I have the symptoms.

I agree with Barb. Many doctors tell post-ops to eat six small meals a day:
breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, supper, snack. You can't eat more than a
few bites anyway. The six meals will help regulate your blood
sugar--especially if they are high in protein. Best wishes to you.

Remember that there is no such thing as 'one size fits all'. It may be
that your surgeon believes his patients should only eat 3 meals a day, but
there are always exceptions. I think the advice of seeing a dietician is
probably the best. Did you have to see one pre-op? If so, that's probably
your best choice. S/he should be able to help.
