Question:
My doctor wants me on a liquid only diet for 8 weeks after my surgery. (Jan 3, 2002)

I'm having a open vbg with intestines bypassed in January and was wondering if anyone would be willing to share some liquid diet ideas with me. I really need your help, any ideas would be appreciated. My liquid diet is for 8 weeks post surgery. This is my first time posting anything, very shy. Thank you!!!!!    — Shanicqua B. After my surgery on Nov. 8th, I was on liquids till I was 4 weeks post op. Some of the things that got me thru the experience, Light N Fit Dannon yogurt, Small curd cottage cheese, Lipton Cup a Soups (my favorite the Cream of Chicken), Sugar Free Carnation Instant Breakfast, I found it online at www.netgrocer.com. I love the chocolate, I blended it with 5 ice cubes, 1 cup skim milk, and a teaspoon of instant coffee( YUMMMMMMYY) Hope those ideas help you out!!! Good Luck with your surgery!!!

8 weeks! Wow! I give anyone credit if they can last that long; as I'm sure you will. Personally I was only on liquids for one week...then soft foods. Sugar Free Kool-aid, Crystal Light (I like the raspberry ice), frozen apple juice and cranberry juice, Chicken Broth with a little garlic in it, ICE WATER, black cherry sugar free jello...they all saved me! I wish you the best of luck on your surgery and a speedy recovery.

We were on clear liquids for 4 weeks and that included anything as long as it was sugar free. I used sugar free jello (all flavors), crystal light, chicken broth and even would mix tomato juice diluted in my chicken broth. Also water and my protein shakes (which we start 7 days postop). My investment (and still is today) is sugar free popcycles. I bought so many boxes of them and still use them from time to time when I don't feel like eating. Congrats and good luck!!

I'm one week out and I've been having Gerber's Apple and Pear Juices that I dilute with water, and my protein powder with Lactaid milk. It's the only way I can drink my protein. If I try it with water, I can't get it down. The real clincher is Welch's No Sugar Added popsicles! Those are heaven sent. They really help get your fluids in and you feel like you're "eating" something. Good Luck!

As for me, my surgery was 12/10 and I started on clear liquids on the 11th and am still on them. I have my first f/u appt. tomorrow. I don't even want to drink the clear liquids that I have to drink now and am really wondering how I am going to be able to eat. My surgeon wanted me to start on creamed soups at days 5-7. I just tried cream of chicken soup yesterday and it had no taste and was not appealing at all. My appetit has changed dratically and I am never hungery.
