Hi there! YES, a person who had their thyroid removed CAN have this
surgery! I myself am living proof of that! I had my thyroid removed 2 years
ago due to thyroid cancer, and had my sugery on 1/21. Best of luck!!!

One of my friends has had her thyroid removed several years ago and just
recently had her RNY. She was concerned about her throat being more closed
up feeling, but had no problem going through the surgery. She said it was
easier than she ever remembered. She still takes her meds for the thyroid
replacement stuff. Good Luck! Always tell your surgeon though about things
you've had done in the past like this and they will be able to work with
it. Melisa RNY 08/15/02 -82lbs

Absolutely! The thyroid replacement medication will probably have to be
adjusted downward as the person loses weight. I had a partial thyroidectomy
and my meds have been lowered twice, but I will always have to take it.
It's just a matter of periodic blood tests after surgery.
