Question:
Searching for low calorie foods that will fill me up.

If anyone has some suggestions on some foods that are low in calories and fat, that will fill us up when we are hungry. I'm 4 months post op and am down 85 pounds. I tried doing carrots the other die and they just don't like me, any suggestions would be great... Wishing everyone much love and success.    — tannedtigress (posted on October 5, 2002)

Try soy nuts or peanuts - they aren't particularly low calorie but they are very high in protein. My surgeon has us snack twice a day on a high protein snack. Carrots are full of sugar - it is natural but it's still sugar and can easily set off cravings. I also eat beef jerky - it's low fat, high protein and doesn't have a lot of calories. I assume you are looking for something for between meals. String cheese is also a good snack.

How about apples? or something whole grain? Fiber will make you feel full without adding a lot of calories. If I have a problem with not feeling full, I usually turn to either a handful of nuts or a spoon or two of peanut butter. Not low calorie OR low fat, I know. But after either one of those it is virtually impossible for me to continue grazing because them make me feel really full for quite a while.

Try Beef Jerky, or cheese, apples have a ton of sugar and carbs and will just make you hungrier, Celery with a dab of peanut butter is good too, hope this helps... valita post-op 02-27-02 -135 pounds and 88 inches

Try the 94% fat free microwave popcorn. Fills you up fast, and its fiber so it helps the digestion too.

Sometimes I'll have 1 or 2 of the cheese/peanut butter crackers with extra peanut butter on top or a few nuts. Often though, I will try to have a cup of tea or coffee. I use powder milk in it for the protein and calcium. I find the warm drinks are more satisfying if I'm just in a pick mood and not really hungry. Good Luck, Lisa open rny 4/26/02 -93lbs
