Question:
Have any post-op tried this from the frozen section in the grocery?

They are in the freezer section with the breakfast foods, products by Morning Star which are vegetable/soy substitutes for burgers, corn dogs, breakfast patties, black bean patties, etc. My daughter told me about them. Each pattie has 9-10 grams protein, no fat, very low carbs. And at 3 months post-op where I cannot eat regular meat, I was able to eat a burger pattie w/o any problem. Thank goodness for this product. Check it out if you haven't yet. Anyone else tried these products yet? I don't know if they are new, but they're new to me.    — blank first name B. I've seen them and they look good. However I only have $130 in food stamps a month for two people and can't make it stretch far enough to buy great things like these. Most of these things tend to be $1 a pattie and boy that adds up in price for me anyway. I envy people who can afford them. ;)

Morning Star brand food is the best. I eat the grilled burgers several times a week usually with cheese on top for added protein-no bun. The meatballs(mixed with spaghetti sauce and cheese) are really good to. Most things can be made in the microwave so it is really handy to have this stuff around.

I have tried this on Weight Watchers before but will definetly go back to them when I can eat again. I also got a recipe for a meatless veggie burger yesterday. Haven't tried it but the picture makes it look so yummy. Let me know if you'd like me to email it to you.

I have tried this stuff and I love it. I get the crumbles and make "fake" hamburger casserole with it. They also have sausage crumbles too and I have used them too and really liked it. Also try Boca products too, the Boca line has italian sausages and smoked sausages, I cook them according to the package directions in the skillet and have found that they are very tasty. I would rather eat soy protein just because it is easier for me to chew and get down. Unless it is a really expensive cut of meat, I have a very hard time getting meat to go down.

The sausage patties are the best! Pre-op I would put a sausage patty and a slice of nonfat cheese on an english muffin and voila! I had a tastier breakfast sandwich than McDonald's could ever offer. I am looking forward to eating "real food" again (I am a new post op).

Meat goes down pretty well for me, especially beefalo and buffalo, which is pretty easy to get here because they raise it in my state (Washington), but I'm always looking for new alternatives. Do any of you know if any of these products DON'T have soy or lentil protein in them? I am allergic to both of those foods (and nuts, including almonds and peanuts, two of the other popular substitutes). I could probably do the black bean ones if that's all they have in them.
