hello,
i have problems with my potassium post-op. it started
about 3 weeks after surgery, i got weak and dehydrated
my potassium level was 2.7 when normal is 4.5.
i had severe leg cramps and chest pains.
even after i got over the dehydration and got my potassium
level under somewhat control i still had problems on and off
i finally had to take a shot of potassium and a b-12
and that cured the problem.
please be very careful your potassium level is what controls
the rythum of your heart.

Leg cramps cramps in my arms and feet , I felt like I was having an anxiety
attack. This happens if I am not properly hydrated. I shopped for 5 hrs
last week without a break to even drink water , and I started to get the
foot cramps,I went and got a bottle of pure orange juice and a bottle of
water after that I was better. I am very careful to maintain very good
nutrition and proper hydration .

My hubby got severly dehydrated and had to be hospitalized about 10 days
post-op open rny and his potassium level was severly low. He was in the
hospital for 3 days with IV and potassium via IV to get it back in line.
His symptoms were vomiting, diareah but that is what caused his dehydration
and may not have been symptoms of low potassium itself - that's probably
what caused his potassium to get low. Good luck!

I had a grand mal seizure 6/6/04 and again 9/22/05, both times with a
potassium level of 2.5. Both times, I was taken to the hospital for an IV
to replenish my potassium. Now, I take a supplement twice daily. I was
also found to be low in calcium, magnesium and protein.
