Question:
HAS ANYBODY SWOLLOWED GUM?
I AM 8 WEEKS POST OP AND I HAD A PIECE OF GUM IN MY MOUTH TODAY AND TALKING AWAY AND I SWOLLOWED IT. HAS ANYBODY EXPEREICED THIS BEFORE? I AM SCARED THAT IT WILL BLOCK MY OPENING? — [Anonymous] (posted on May 21, 2001)

I am still pre-op, but know of someone that this happened to. She was a
couple of weeks out when she swallowed gum. They ended up putting a scope
down her throat and getting it out. It was stuck in her stoma. She was
fine afterwards.

Never have gum again? For some reason, I never thought about gum and I
find this harder to "swallow" than the other restrictions I have
heard about. I love blue Trident. I am suddenly sad.

I swallowed my gum at 2 weeks post op, not realizing I did it, I was to
embarressed to call my Dr. but I was really scared. I waited and luckily I
never felt anything or had any problems, relax and wait a few days see what
happens...
I still chew gum, but I am more careful with it. Good luck!
