Question:
How do you control GAS after abdominoplasty?

HELP! I had DS surgery on 5/2/00 and a TT on 8/30/02. The GAS ever since the TT has been something else! Pre-TT gas was not a major issue for me, but now that the extra "space" inside me is gone, and I'm stitched up tight as a drum (my "internal binder"), and my abdomen and torso muscles are all tightened up and restrapped, GAS has really presented itself! Sometimes the pressure is so great that I think my skin will pop open and it's very difficult to release the gas. My torso gets tight as a drum as the days wears on. The gas is very painful. Any insight into TT postop experiences and GAS management would be GREATLY appreciated!! Michele    — Michele A. (posted on September 24, 2002)

Activated charcoal works wonders! You can get it at most pharmacies or other places that sell nutritional supplements. It comes in capsules, caplets or tablets. Tablets are messy--get all over your hands and tongue, but they do work like a charm. It's the only thing that works for me--I had a DS one year ago and discovered charcoal just 2 or 3 months ago. Believe me, I had tried everything else--but this is the only thing that does relieve intestinal distress. I take about 4 at a time whenever problems arise.
