Question:
are creme based soups okay??
I am 2 weeks post op and I am having a hard time keeping soft foods down, even my meds. I bought some creme of chicken soup. Is that okay to try to eat a this stage? — Shavonne P. (posted on September 4, 2002)

We had to strain ours while on the full liquid stage. That was for weeks 2
and 3.

That pretty much depends on you and what your dietician said. I started on
cream soups at one week and never had a problem. Matter of fact, I'm almost
15 months out and I still like them. Hang in there.

Yes, straining was also recommended for us with the cream soups. I simply
purchased a small strainer in the bar supplies section of my local store.
Works great for straining yogurt too, since we can't have any of the fruit
in it for awhile. Just push it through with a rubber spatula or wooden
spoon. Good Luck :) - Anna LAP RNY 7/3/02 -58lbs.

I am just 3 wks out tomorrow and have been living on cream of potato w/
some grated cheese. Until last night, I loved it. Had had it like 6X,
last night I dumped. I think it was more from eating to fast than the
cream, milk or cheese. Just be careful, I have a harded time telling when
I am full with the soups than with solids or puree. Good Luck...Heather

My Nutritionist said that cream soups are OK, but that they have to be
strained and watered down. Just straight out of the cam it a little too
thick while on liquids. I have had cream of chicken, strained, with 1 and a
half cans of water and I tolderated it. I am 10 days post-op.

They were fine for me (my nutritionist ok'd them), I made them with skim
milk - lived on tomato soup for a few days!

Creamed soups were fine for me too and I also added milk to up the protein.
Cream of mushroom (I didnt strain) and tomato were my FAVORITES and I just
about lived on them for a short time. Enjoy~~~~
