Question:
Atkins Endulge bar for low carbers...really ok?
It's been well over a year since I stuck to a low carb regime and I'm going to try it again to kick off my last 35lbs. I was at GNC tonight and was picking out low carb bars and came across the Atkins Endulge chocolate bar. It tasted soooo good, much better than the ones I remember from a year ago. The label says 2 carbs...has anyone else had expirience with these bars and are they really ok?? (I hope so!!) Now I know they aren't much on protein, 1g, but I fulfill that obligation no problem...I just want these (probably one a day to be honest) as a snack...what do you low carbers think? If there are any other "legal" goodies like that out there please fill me in on it...like I said it's been awhile since I've thought low carbs...thanks alot! -Kim open RNY 7/17 -105 — KimBo36 (posted on May 6, 2002)

The fat content in the Atkins diet, will NOT inhibit your weight loss, if
you follow the diet as it's supposed to be followed. If people would just
READ the book, and see how the fat intake correlates with the total diet,
then there wouldn't be so much misconception about Atkins. Anyway, I have
a catalog from the Atkins center, and the bars are not for people just
starting out. Atkins has what you call an induction phase (2 weeks), where
you do very low carb. He suggests that these bars not be eaten until that
two weeks is over and you know where your carb limit is, for weight loss.
I occasionally eat the Carb solutions bars if I get a sweet craving. But
I've been on Atkins for some time. Just to let you know, I recently had my
blood levels checked, and except for my iron, which is my fault, I hate
vitamins LOL, everything is fine. Atkins fat intake will not make you stop
losing. I eat mayonaise, hamburger, butter, and I have lost close to 160
lbs in 9 months and have never felt better. I'm am steadly losing between
10 to 20 lbs a month, and my surgeon says I'm ahead of most of his
patients. Why??? ATKINS.. Best of luck to you.

I agree with Carery that the hgihg fat in Atkins will not make you stop
losing. However, if you are fat sensitive, they may make you dump. I
dumped on atkins shakes and just shyed away from all his products as a
result, so I'm not sure if his bars would do the same. The previous poster
mentioned the EAS Advant Edge. I use these daily. They are the best
tasting I have found - the cookies and cream is wonderful - and beleive me
I have tried them all. Pure Protein brand is my next choice when I cannot
find the EAS bars.

Just to let it be known that the "endulge" bar is actually a
candy bar, not a protein bar. Personally, I think if one is doing Atkins by
the book, it should not hurt once in a while, but, if taking in carbs also,
this may be a hinder. I think some of the posters were thinking it was a
actually protien bar. No offense anyone!!

I just want to say that if you want something sweet with protein, then use
the Atkins Advantage protein bars. I am addicted to the Frosted Cinnamon
Swirl and the Chocolate Mocha Crunch. Low carb and no sugar. I have been
eating 1 of these for breakfast everday, and ususally another one in the
day for a treat. I still do eat my natural protein at the other meals and I
am doing great! I have lost over 170 lbs since surgery last year and at
goal. I have had no problems at all with using these. They might be a
little higher in fat, but it hasn't bothered me at all. Try them they're
great!

I did the math and figured there are four hidden carbs in this bar...which
I thought I made clear enough is not a protein bar in my question. I also
know that fat is not a factor when low carbing. As far as low carb goes, I
think this is a wonderful product...and even when I switch back to a more
"balanced" diet I think I will include this as a treat as it only
has 150 calories vs. 180 in the Milkyway light. I was just curious if these
really are low carb, because I know adkins likes to subtract glycerine, and
now what ever this Maltitol is, from the carb count. So I figured it out,
minus fiber they are 6.5 carbs...not too shabby. Thanks for all the input.
