Question:
SOS!!! I am sick everytime eat WHY??
I am 6 weeks post. Everytime I eat, does not matter what, I have to lie down for about 15 minutes. I am very nauseated. I have not thrown up but feel like I could. Please tell me this goes away. I cannot stand the thought of living the rest of my life this way. I am eating slow and not more than 3-4 tablespoons or 5 oz at a time. — terrifogle40 (posted on April 7, 2002)

Hi,
This happened to me for a couple of weeks. What a
terrible feeling! I found though, that I was eating
too much or too fast...At any rate, I think sometimes
the food just doesn't agree with you and that happened to me, too. What I
found, is sucking on a sugarless peppermint
took the nausea away in a couple of minutes. Try it... it worked for me!

You didn't say WHAT you were eating. I had a problem for the first three
to four months. I still have good days and bad days...but the bad days are
getting fewer. Concentrate on eating protein......pea soup, lentil soup,
hummus. Don't jump to the chicken and beef so fast. I am now 5 months and
haven't had chicken and beef yet. Sometimes I find that when I think I'm
hungry, I'm really not. It gets better as you progress. Six weeks is NOT
that far along. Your stomach pouch is newly healed. Are you eating
anything that has fat in it? Maybe you can't tolerate the fat. I can't.
I get that nauseated feeling and used to force myself to throw up. I also
find that I get nauseated when I eat too quickly and don't chew everything
to a liquid form. Let me know how you make out. By the way, I'm 5 months
out and down 96 pounds. Even nausea was worth it.

Terri, Your normal. One of the things that I did the first few that saved
me is that I drank Chamomile tea with splenda. I don't know if it was the
warmth or the calming effect of the tea, but drinking 2 or 3 cups a day
truly helped. Eggs were a no no for the 1st 6 months. Eat slow... I mean
really slow. Best of luck.

Agree on the PEPERMINT!! Mint worked great when I was newly post-op and
got nauseated. Still does. In fact, although I'm not supposed to chew
gum, I do sometimes chew winterfresh, sugar-free (I just NEVER swallow it).
Does the trick. Good luck to you. Open RNY 7/17/01, -87 lbs

Hi, I can empathize with you! I am 11 weeks post op and must be VERY
careful to eat slowly, and teeny tiny bites, or I feel awful and must throw
up. However, its better than it was when I was 6 weeks out! I can eat
salad now, (about 1/4 cup) and small amounts of tuna, cheese, ham, turkey
etc... but NO EGGS! I put a small serving of whatever I am going to eat in
a small bowl or plate. Then I eat 2 small forkfuls and walk away. I go
back after 10 minutes or so and try a few more forkfuls, and so on. This
way I can at least eat a few ounces of food instead of the 2 teaspoons I
was eating before. I wasnt losing very fast because I was getting so few
calories my body was holding on like a jealous husband!! LOL! Now Ive lost
76 pounds at 11 weeks out, Im very happy and this is working for me! Good
Luck!

Hi: I find that if I eat my meals on what I call "on the move",
I can eat just a little more, feel more satisfied and have REALLY overcome
the nausea that I used to have. I simply just put my food in a small dish
and eat a bite about every 3-4 mins, standing up and moving around, I get
alot of my house cleaned thru all of my small meals during the day...
Sounds a little wierd I know, but it feels like my food doesn't "ball
up" in my stomach this way. My comfort also is hot tea....I have 2
cups of hot tea every morning and it soothes my new tummy before I have to
dump in the "real" food for breakfast. I drink half tea and half
milk so I can get some protein in there also. I also drink a couple of
cups before bed and it helps soothe my pouch during the night.....We all
have our little "quirkey" things that work for us....Lots of
experimenting...

HI,
I had my surgery 7/7/03 and had no luck with solids, then I told my DR.
(others told me to be patient). He said I needed an EGD and a dilitation.
Did the trick. I still can't eat any thing with any oil, or margarine but
I can eat.
