Question:
2 months post op and nothing is appealing...suggestions?
Although I do sometimes feel hungry, everything I eat just seems a little gross to me.I'm trying my best to get all my protein in,but I think my food intake is low altogether.I have been on a plateau now for2.5 weeks after losing 35 lbs in the first 5 weeks.I am thinking maybe the plateau is due to not enough protein. However almost all protein sources are really turning me off.Any advice? — Stephanie H. You are so normal it is not even funny. I was just there, but you do start
to lose again. I plateued for almost a month before starting to drop again.
I too feel I do not get enough calories, or food in, because I am not
hungry. this too is normal. don't worry.
just keep drinking water.

TRY A DR. ATKINS SHAKE ( PRE MIXES ) AVAIL AT GNC, THEY ARE THE BEST. LUNCH
TIME EAT SOME SHRIMP, COLD WITH A LITTLE SHRIMP SAUCE. VERY CHEAP
CONSIDERING A ONE POUND BAG LAST FOR FOUR MEALS. EAT SOME WENDY'S CHILE. A
SMALL ONE HAS NO FAT AND A LOAD OF PROTEIN. TUNA FISH, KFC CHICKEN STRIPS
HAS LOADS OF PROTEIN AND TASTE PRETTY DARN GOOD. BE CREATIVE AND YOU WILL
FIND THE ONE PROTEIN THAT YOUR BODY WILL ACTUALLY LOOK FORWARD TO. MINE IS
THE ATKINS DRINK ESPECIALLY THE CHOCLATE. GOOD LUCK

I hated all protein drinks and used the Knox Nutra Joint. You mix it with
4-8oz of water(another bonus)and no sugar and (can't remember exactly) but
a lot of protein in that little bit. I think it taste good too.

I'm almost 2 1/2 yrs PO from lap BPD/DS and now eat almost exactly as I did
before surgery, in smaller quantity and concentrating on protein first, of
course. But I do so remember how picky I was postop. Everything seemed to
taste different and not much appealed to me for quite a while. I
especially mourned my distaste for coffee and remember that tuna was
disgusting for a good year. I seem to have gotten my protein in by
following my yens (which were just as strong as my turn-offs). My first
year I ate fried shrimp every time I ate out and pistacchio nuts non-stop
(8 lbs a week, I kid you not), and started every morning off w a McD's
Bacon Egg & Cheese Bisquit (protein, protein & more protein).
Maintained my love of ham, bacon & cheese throughout. Non- DS patients
may not be able to handle a high fat diet as we DSers do, but perhaps you
can find lower-fat alternatives that you can incorporate, ie, ham is low
fat naturally & sliced thin is easy on everyone's stomach
configuration, turkey bacon, low-fat cheese, a more moderate consumption of
whatever nuts turn you on! The good news is that the "funny
taste" only lasts so long. By 9 months I was back to coffee and soda
and by a year, I was eating EVERYTHING! I do choose to go easy on rice and
pasta as they fill me up so that I can't finish the meat, lobster or shrimp
that is now the main event. Listen to your cravings for different ways to
get in protein, and know that before the year is out the yicky feelings
will have gone and all your old food preferences will return. By the way,
I haven't posted in a while and am happy to see the ANONYMOUS option at the
top of the sign-in has been removed. Big Cheers to AMOS!

I am at 10 weeks post op and my best protein drink is fruit
smoothie made from water mixed with 1/2 packet of EAS Myoplex (Rite Aid
Drug), then add unsweetened frozen straw-berries, maybe some blueberries
thrown in.
