Question:
I am only 23 years old and having a revision....wondering about my skin elasticity
I had a VBG at age 20 and am now looking into a revision. I would like to hear from others in my age range regarding how their skin has responded. I've been told from the first surgery that my skin will "bounce back". Well since I never lost the weight I don't know if it can or not. I would also like to hear from anyone who had a revision...for some reason I am much more scared this time around. — LaKeAffy (posted on February 4, 2005)

As mentioned above, I hope you will consider looking at the DS as your
revisional surgery. Please read

before you make your decision.
Your skin will probably not snap back completely -- but better than the
skin of us older folks, so don't worry about it, and decide what to do
later, when you're HEALTHY.

I had a revision from VBG to RNY in 2000. I am quite a bit older than you
(39) and the skin is a mess since I was big my entire life but the revision
surgery was actually easier and less painful than the original surgery.
The pain control was much, much better! Plus I kinda knew what to expect
and I think that helped too. I love my RNY and wish I would have had it
initially. Good luck to you on your revision. As far as skin, you have
your age working for you but everyone is different and their skin will
respond differently. One factor is how much elasticity your skin has and
another is how long were you morbidly obese. Also, I would imagine
genetics would play a role as well. Regardless, even if you have skin
issues, there is always PS but you will feel so much better and be
healthier. I have had no PS due to financial issues but it is most
definately in my future. In the meantime, I take comfort in the fact that
I look ok with clothes on and no longer have to deal with high blood
pressure, diabetes, asthma, joint pain and humiliation!
