Question:
I read alot of people drink Carnation Instant Breakfast. When I went to buy it at

the store it had alot of sugar. How many grams of sugar should you have at a meal. I'm going to have the RNY, distal and I thought sugar was a no no? Do they make Carnation Instant Breadfast without sugar.    — [Anonymous] (posted on September 5, 1999)

Carnation Instant Breakfast comes in a no sugar added version, sweetened with Aspartame (Equal), if your grocer doesn't stock it ... ask them to.

They do sell sugar free Carnation Instant Breakfast. It will be in a blue box, not yellow. The regular also comes in single serve cans, for people on the go.

Hi, yes they make instant breakfast in sugar free but it is hard to find. You might have to ask your local grocery store to order it for you. Most will as a courtesy to the customer. The kregular instant breakfast and the Ultra Slim Fast both made me very very sick to my tummy so I went to protein powder instead right after surgery. Hope this helps. Cheri

I read a post on another question today about the instant carnation breakfast. I read that someone put a toll free number down for Nestle's that you can order direct. The number is 1-800-538-8327. Good luck and yes, you should buy the sugar free.

Try not to drink these super drinks and other high caloric drinks like melted ice cream, etc. They will prevent good weight loss, they go down TOO EASILY!!! Use regular foods, chopped or blended if you have to, but after 4-6 weeks with a proximal gastric bypass you will just have to chew them well. Eggs, cottage cheese, tofu, fish and chopped meats have plenty of protein. I have no direct experience with distal RNY however and I think that the protein requirements are large. You better check with your surgeon carefully.

Yes they do make carnation instant breakfast sugarfree. I have only been able to find it at selected stores. You may have to ask the store to stock it.

Hi. To answer your question, they do make sugar free Carnation Instant Breakfast. You will want to get the sugar free kind. At first, after surgery everything should be sugar free. Once your doctor gives you the go ahead to eat regular foods you can try something with sugar in it and see if you can tolerate sugar or not. Good luck.

Yes, there is a sugar free Carnation Instant Breakfast on the market. You might have to check a different store if yours does not carry it, or if you ask most stores will order it for you.

I am drinking the Carnation Sugar-free instant breakfasts. You are right, sugar is a major no no. But Carnation makes the instant breakfasts sugar-free in chocolate flavor. You just have to look for it. :)

It does come in a sugar-free form, but it is harder to find. I am in Texas and I have found it at Kroger's. If you can't find it, ask the store manager. They can order it for you. Good Luck!!

For maximum wt loss, limit yourself to 6g of sugar per serving/meal. Our doctor did not use IB & milk or Ensure type products. We go for the high protein, low-everything-else types. We consume NO sugar or milk for life! Or until we want some weight back on, of course.

For extra protein using the sugar free carnation inst breakfast, try adding 1 packet to 2 cups milk and 1/2 cup inst powdered milk and blend. Add sweetner if needed and extracts for flavor variations. Ice cubes make it thicker. It tastes very good and gives you about 37-38 g protein. I drink 2 a day for the first 6 weeks post op (am 2 weeks now).

After calling grocery stores in our area I was finally able to find a place that sold sugar-free CIB. My choice is the vanilla, and there's a 'shake' recipe on the box that's good: milk, CIB, 1/2 banana, few frozen strawberries, and a container of fat and sugar free yogurt. Blend, and it makes about 16 oz and is tastey. Adding skim milk powder will boost the values even more. Note: for those who haven't yet read the fine print, Slim-Fast has LOTS of sugar ... the last time I looked, there were at least five different kinds of sugar. And watch out for low and non fat yogurts ... my son picked up some the other day, assuming they were sugar free. YIKES! I didn't check before having a couple ounces from a container, and I felt sick for the next 2 hours. Turns out there was 46g sugar in one container! Even if it means wearing your bi-focals in public, READ THE LABELS CAREFULLY!

Post-op I bought a kind of protein powder called PURE WPI by Bioplex Nutrition from Craig Nutraceuticals, Inc. 1-800-293-1683.This product provides 20 grams of protein per scoop and has no flavor so it can be mixed with just about anything liquid. It also has 0 Fat,0 Carbs,0 Sugar and 80 calories. It is fortified with calcium, potassium and magnesium. I love to make fruit smoothies with it and sweeten with fructose (fruit sugar found in the diet section of the grocery store). They are a delight! Good luck!

If you are unable to find the product in your local store there is a toll free number to Nestle (who makes the Carnation No Sugar added Instant Breakfast) and they can either tell you where in your area you may purchase it or you can order it directly from them. Good Luck.

Walmart sells the no sugar added CIB for less than $3.00. It is great tasting, but still can cause some stomach upset.

Carnation makes sugar free chocolate and vanilla. Vanilla seems harder to find. I went to the company's web site and requested a catalog and I now order it directly from there for a fairly cheap price and it is more convenient than searching it down in Kroger's and other stores. We were given a recipe to boost the protein of it to about 10g/drink just by adding instant milk to it. The recipe should be on the Bariatric Treatment Center website, along with many other good recipes. I highly recommend contact companies that you use a lot of their products because they can provide you with valuable coupons or even recipes.

Sheesh! Am I the only one who dumped w/this product? I couldn't even finish one serving before I was violently ill (room spinning, accelerated heartbeat, cold sweats, etc.)...Learned my lesson, though - - "no sugar added" does NOT mean "sugar free"! In fact, my Doctor was concerned at the amount of "natural" sugars present in Carnation Instant Breakfast No Sugar Added. In my experience, the "sugar" that's referenced is the refined, white version - - but so-called "natural" sugars can be just as hazardous to our gentle constitutions! I found it MUCH easier to simply add flavorings to my milk - - along with an Equal or Splenda packet. Banana, vanilla - - even peppermint - I have a wonderful assortment of flavors. Most important to me, it's a heckuva lot less expensive to add a few drops of flavoring to my milk (and I do not have to experience the wretched aftertaste Carnation so thoughtfully provides as an added bonus!).

I dumped on it...but I am not sure if it was actually the no-sugar added CIB or the milk. I have a problem with dairy. I tried it with LACTOSE FREE milk and it still didn't work for me. Just remember...that no-sugar added doesn't mean no sugar.

I have found a way to add a lot of protein to my Carnation Instant Breakfast. For 1 pkg of Carnation Instant breakfast add 1 cup skim milk, 6 tbsp of nonfat dry milk and 1 scoop of protein powder and that makes 41 grams of protein. I find that it tastes best if I make it like hot chocolate.

The web site carnationinstantbreakfast.com shows that the sugar free, advertised as Carb free, or something like that, comes in 4 different flavors, and also there is a variety pack. You can enter a flavor of your choice and your zipcode and they will tell you what grocery stores in your area carry it.

Yes, they do make a no sugar added product. I found it hard to find and most times could only find it in vanilla flavor. I found a protein drink I liked much better which had more protein so stopped trying to find the CIB. I live in the south and was only able to find it at Food Lion but don't know about other areas of the country. Never was able to find it at Walmart SuperStore.

Try Slim Fast Low Carb Meal (liquid) Straberries and Cream. Only 1 gram of sugar, 2 carbs and 20 grams of protein. I can't drink the whole can at once as it is too filling. I split the can in half and use it for lunch and store the rest in a BAll canning freezer cups. (Wal-Mart).
