Question:
Has anyone had a chemical peel done on their face to help with wrinkles post-op?

Has anyone had this done post-op to deal with post-op skin "deflation?" I am going for to a spa/salon for a full day of beauty, etc. as a birthday gift, and the salon just started offering chemical peels for the face to help reduce wrinkles and firm up the skin. The chemical peel they offer is an "up to 99% glycolic acid" chemical peel, and I was just wondering how effective it is for reducing wrinkles, etc. before I plunk down my $90. Thanks! Sorry, I can't be of much help to you, since I haven't nor did I need a peel for post-op inflation...lol I'm one of the lucky ones, that my 115 pound excess of weight didn't effect my neck and face. I just wanted to tell I had a couple of friends that went to a spa and had a peel and had to go to a plastic surgeon afterwards. Please be cautious!!! Some of these Spas advertize this procedure done, but really have no experience...Afterall, this is a chemical peel. I'd rather see a plastic surgeon, which is board certified to be sure. A massage at a Spa is great, but a peel is quite another. Good Luck! 2/11/03 250/142/135

Original poster here. Thanks for your good advice, Hazel. However, the peel is administered by an M.D. who works onsite at the spa, so I feel pretty safe having this procedure done. While I'm glad the 65 lbs. i've lost has helped slimmed my face, i'm not so happy with many of the lines that now "decorate" my face.

Sweet One..i have had them and had excellent results! I'm sure everyones skin reacts differently to the treatments tho..and some may not be as happy as others (just as with our weight loss results!) My treatments were performed by my Esthetician, under the supervision of Dr of Dermatology. I am not exactly sure of what the exact chemical was..but i was given a series of treatments, one once a month for 3 mos and then i maintain by going for one every 6 mos now. I think her charge is around $75 per treatment. Tho this sounds expensive..i still find it cheaper and with much better results than the expensive MIRACLE creams out on the market. Best wishes to you!

I started having these peels done by an Esthetician at a Day Spa approximately one month ago. My partner was also having them done. I've had 4 done and the last one was called a double peel. My face turned beet red and I broke out in hives all over my face and neck. This was two days ago. I went to the doctor today and was prescribed a cream to use for 10 days on it. Now the doctor said I have sensitive skin as I'm blonde, blue eyed, and fair skined. My partner has darker skin and dark hair and is doing just fine with the peel. Everyone is different and before the reaction the peels were doing wonders for my skin. Now my partner who didn't have a reaction doesn't feel the peels were doing anything for her. If you decide to do the peels a great place is to find a skincare school as they offer the services at about half price.
