Question:
What is the cost of the B12 injections, and will insurance cover the B12

FIRST you need a presciption from your doc. My ins covered the vials, but not the syringes. When I used the ins, my supply was less than $3. But I hated the tiny one serving vials. Took up space, hard to get it out. So, I bought them locally off my ins (still with Rx, though) for $7. 30-shot vial. Pretty darned cheap, I think. The syringes are 4/$1 at Walgreen's. We need 3 ml 25 g 1".

I have Aetna. I dont give myself shots. When I go in; aetna charges the co pay; since the shot is less than the co pay i end up paying for the shot 100 % the cost $4.32 a shot

Oops. Maybe I didn't read that right. I used to go to my doc's office for the shots and my ins paid 100%, not even the copay. As you can see, the doc probably pays .40 per shot and charges the ins $15-25 for them. (That's ok, he has expenses). The only reason I got past my needle-phobia is that I am way too BUSY to sit around and wait til they squeeze me in, maybe an hour, shoot me and I'm gone. I can do my own at MY convenience & it takes less than 3 minutes to get everything out, shoot and get rid of it.

Recently I tried to fill my B-12 at the drugstore and they wanted 8.99 for 1 month/vial with my insurance, Carefirst. So I did some checking and it is actually cheaper to NOT use insurance for this. Last week I got 10 vials of B-12 and paid a little over $11 bucks! My insurance did pay for the suringes, 24 for $9. As far as my B-12 goes, I'll pay for that myself and keep my insurance company out of it! Good luck!

I just had my first B-12 injection. 1 cc is all and it was $3.00 at my Drs. office. I do not have insurance. B12 is stored in your liver for up to 6 months . I shouldn't have to have another one for that long but if I feel like it could have them again at three months. I was surprised how inexpensive it was.
