Question:
which is better post op Equal or splenda or what?

I have just been reading post and it seams some people dump on splenda, I will hopefully be having surgery in early 2003, will equal make you dump? I have also started buying (blue bunny) yogurt it has splenda,or should I switch to the ones with aspertaim (equal). I am learning so much from all of you post ops you'r great! Happy Holidays and thankyou in advance    — wizz46 (posted on December 16, 2002)

I am two years post op and have used both Equal and Splenda. Neither make me dump. I like Splenda more. Whether or not you dump after eating a certain food usually depends on the individual, and/or how much you consumed. Good luck.

I can use all artifical sweetners. But I prefer Splenda because of the taste. However it does make me hungry for more sweets which in turn makes me want to eat more. So most of the time I just use alittle regular sugar instead. There is'nt any sweetner that's better than another. It is all up to what you enjoy more and can tolerate.

ALthough I use both, I would MUCH rather use Splenda. It is made from real sugar and not harmful chemicals. If you do any reading from uninterested parties, there have been many studies that show Aspartame is EXTREMELY unhealthy for you! I have heard of the headaches and other illnesses it can cause. Sorry I don't have any proof or website you can access, but if you did a search under "aspartame" I'll bet you could find plenty of reasons to NOT use it.

I like Splenda but I'm not convinced it's safe. There are many web sites that have warnings about it. Here are only a few of them. http://www.youngagain.com/marcella75/splenda.html - http://www.holisticmed.com/splenda/ - http://www.karlloren.com/Diabetes/p40.htm Splenda is "Clorinated". So it is not exactly chemical free.

I use Splenda and it doesn't make me dump. I don't like to use aspartame b/c of the horrible taste it leaves in my mouth but Splenda is great! Good luck and God bless!

I use Splenda and love it. It doesn't make me dump either. I have been hearing a lot about Equal and have been told by many that it is a neuro toxin. Equal also seems to leave me craving something else that is sweet and carbohydrate laiden. Good Luck to you.

so far I've done fine on all artificial sweetners but then I do well on the real stuff too. Sucks actually! I dump on fats and high carby foods. Everyone is so very different. I'd suggest trying to avoid guessing what you'll do fine with and what you won't and just feel your way once you get to the other side. Stocking up on one thing can leave you very frustrated when it doesn't agree or appeal to you post-op. Good luck!
