I felt the exact same way you are - regarding food and cravings. People
always said it would pass and get better when I would post my dilema(sp)
and it's true. Hang in there. I remember at one point I craved a chili
cheese dog and what I did was I went and got one - this is disgusting - I
would chew it up and then spit it out - now swallowing any of it. It
worked and satisfied my craving!!!!! How far out from surgery are you?
For me the first month was nothing but psychological warfare!! I'm serious
I always THOUGHT I was hungry but I soon learned that was "head
hunger." Also, all the posters that said it would improve with each
day were absolutely right. Hang in there -

hiya...are you drinking protein shakes? that should help with the physical
hunger but the head hunger is another battle...
if you tried to eat a hot dog right now with all those fixings you would
throw up quickly...the other lady's suggestion was a good one, cut a bite
off hot dog (no bun) and dip it in some sauce, chew it and see if you can
swallow it..chew it super good tho. NO BUN!!!
i know a lady who would suck on potato chips to get the flavor then spit
them out. i would chew watermelon and grapes then spit them out...it does
help.
good luck!

I agree with the protein drink suggestion. It will help you a lot. I
drink one every morning and one while I'm cooking supper. Also, there is a
fantastic chat room right here on obesityhelp.com. Hope to see you there.

Susan--I believe you are having "head hunger". At the onset of
rny your pouch should only be able to hold 1-2 oz. of food at a sitting.
The lightheadedness could be from lacking vitamins--are you taking two
Flinstones Complete each day (or similar)? When I was in the first stages
I couldn't handle protein shakes so I had to really work at it to get as
much protein as possible. I stuck to lipton chicken cup of soup--its in a
packet and was very easy on my system. My doctor allowed me to do the low
fat cottage cheese and cheese slice and 1% milk. If you can handle the
protein shakes I'd say try that. Liquids go through your pouch quickly.
But do not drink and eat at the same time....wait at least 30 minutes to
drink something! Hope this helps!

I had the same problem. I did not tolerate pureed foods well at all. I
started eating (with my doctor's permission) some of the "soft"
food items. I tolerated these much better. I still ate the same portions,
somewhere between 2-4 oz. but the food seemed to "stay" with me
better than the pureed foods did. It felt like it was "sticking to my
ribs" instead of going right through me!
