Question:
Has anyone else lost their taste for meat since their surgery?

Since surgery there are lots of meats that I don't like anymore. Really weird. I used to absolutely LOVE ham pre op but now I can't stand it! Chicken and turkey are ify sometimes now too. Can't stand hot dogs or breakfast sausage either. For the first 5 or 6 months after surgery I was having a real hard time finding anything I liked whether it was meat or something else. Thank goodness that didn't last! It's weird how tastes change after this surgery. I wonder why it does, or if it's just psychological.

Nothing did more to get me to my top weight pre-op more than steak. I used to eat steak 3 to 4 nights per week. I am 4 months post-op and I haven't eaten a bite of steak other than the first time I tried it several months ago and didn't enjoy it. I now eat fish several times each week, but I doubt I'll ever enjoy any type of beef as much as I used to. Quite honestly, I don't really enjoy chicken that much either. There's too much chewing involved and by the time I swallow it, it doesn't taste very good. - Mike

Yeah, me too. Steak doesn't taste good any more. I find Kentuky Fried Chicken, dark meat, with skin removed tastes pretty good. It is pressure cooked before it is fried and the meat is very tender and tasty. I used to be a white meat only person, but it no longer holds any appeal for me.

I am now 3.5 months post-op. I have a total dislike of anything containing meat! I use to LOVE meat...steak, chicken, sausage, pork, veal, ham, pork chops...you name it, I ate it! Now, I can't stand the smell, texture, or taste of meat....which makes my post op life a bit difficult. I am eating a lot of beans, rice, soups, some noodles, asian foods, etc. And I drink Isopure almost every day to get 40g of protein in. My surgeon does not know why I should suddenly dislike meat...but oh well! Additionally, I can't stand the smell of fast food. And...candy and most sweets are wayyyyy tooooo sweet for me. So, I eat lots more fruit and veggies now. Funny..I thought this operation was on my digestive system. When did they slip in a lobotomy!!!
