Question:
Has anyone post-op had a successful, healthy pregnancy?
I am on a waiting list for an Open RNY next year. I was told that pregnancy after having the surgery isn't a good idea. The thing is, I am not sure I am finished having children. I have twin girls and am only 23. I would like to try for one more. I need to know if any women here that have had the surgery have had a successful full-term, healthy pregnancy. — AprilRebuilt (posted on May 28, 2002)

I had 2 healthy pregnancies after I had the VBG in 1992. My pregnancies
and everything thereafter went well. No problems at all. They do
recommend that you wait a year after the surgery so that you can obtain
your goal weight before putting on pregnancy weight. I hardly gained with
either of my children (due to nausea and vomiting related to pregnancy),
but it is best to obtain your goal first. Good luck. Stephanie Teal

April, when I had my first consult with the doctor, that was probably my
first question. I have been told that pregnancies post op are not a
problem. Like the last poster, I have been told to wait 12-18 months post
op to get pregnant. If I couldn't get pregnant after this surgery I would
have never done it. I still have to wait about a year before we start
trying!! Good Luck to you!

I had vertical banding done in May, 1998. At my January, 1999 appointment,
I had lost a little less than half of my excess weight (90 pounds) and
asked my doctor how he felt about me having a third baby. He said NO
PROBLEM! I drank A LOT of milk and snacked a lot. Healthy term baby in
September, 99. ... just had the revision to an RNY last week. Pros and
cons, you know?
