Question:
Chocolate is SCREAMING my name! This wasn't a prob pre-op but now I seem to crave it!
I have come up with a few 'tricks' but would like some additional ideas...if I have good alternatives on hand I'll have no excuses. I found I can have 2 Hershey kisses but 3 is a problem. I can also handle the sugar free candy/cookies but they give me cramps/gas :(. I love no sugar added hot chocolate (I have it every day- too much?) and 3-4 well placed sugar free candies through out the day (Lifesavers Delites-European Collection) Send me your ideas! — Peggy N. I totally understand. If you are in the midwest...there is a brand of
fudge pops SF/FF called Blue Bunny. OMG are they good! Creamy, chocolately
and shaped like a Dove bar. Get the ones in the package with the
fudge/vanilla swirl. I am the most finicky person when it comes to
artificial sweeteners. I CANNOT tell the difference! My DH even eats them
and says they are good. I have also heard that Schwans (the truck delivery)
SF/FF ice cream is good too. I eat one everyday. 60 cals. and about 4 0r 5
gr. protein.

And for all others reading this know that Blue Bunny brand is available on
the East coast as well. I have found them at Super Wal-mart. My husband
eats them too. De-lish.

Karen, I agree.... The SF/FF Blue Bunny Fudgicles are the best. I cannot
tell the difference either. I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and
Blue Bunny is available here.

I like "Russell Stover's Sugar Free Pecan Delights". However
although they ARE sugar free they are still very high in calories and fat!
So I don't eat them often. A better alternative is "Sweet' N Low Mint
Patteez". They are small, about the size of a half dollar. Two is all
I want and I usually have just "one". If I were to have four
pieces (which is way to many for me) that would be 100 calories, 4 grams of
fat (compared to the Pecan candy with 12!) and 1 gram of protein. I love
the taste of the chocolate with the mint. I find it very refreshing and
satisfying. If you are interested in them, I get mine at Wal-Mart. A 3.44
oz bag with 10 pieces is $1.12.

About 2 years ago, I found a wonderful choc. that I have been eating ever
since. It is called 50/50 and is located in your grocery store in the
diabetic aisle. They come 16 miniatures to a package and contain 0 sugar.
I reccomend it to all my members at my health club who are on a low carb
diet and we all swear that it tastes better than the real thing. A bag of
16 costs $2.39. I have seen them at Wal-Mart also. (By the way, the reason
the company is called 50/50 is because they donate 50% of all their profits
to the research for Diabetes and will continue to do so until a cure is
found! Great Huh?!)

Chocolate screams my name all the time. Even being 11 weeks post-op. I
did find something that took care of those cravings, was low in fat, low in
sugar and high in chocolate taste. There is a new whip cream in a can out
in the markets, made by Redi-Whip, it is chocolate whip cream and I can
tell you that it does the trick. If you are worried about a whip cream
taste, dont be, it tastes nothing like whipped cream, more like a chocolate
mousse!!!

I am still pre-op and can only suspect the reason you are craving chocolate
post-op is because your body is having caffeine withdrawls. A few years
ago when I quit smoking, my tastes changed. I hated coffee and gave it up.
I began to crave chocolate to replace the caffeine I wasn't getting from
the coffee anymore.
