Question:
What are the effects of Prozac related to weight loss?

A bariatric Dr. once told me that Prozac has weight loss side effects. She said that the makers of Prozac once sought FDA approval as a wt. loss \"drug\". But were unsuccessful. I was on Prozac for a short period of time and actually did lose about 10 lbs.

I have been on a very large dose of Prozac for many years. And I am grateful to have it. I have a severe depressive disorder. I am two months post op open RNY and down 40 lbs. If I had to choose between WLS and Prozac, I would have to choose Prozac. But I am fortunate enough to have had an event free surgery and a depression free life.

Hi... I am a pre-op and have been on prozac almost 2 yrs more for chronic fatigue syndrome than depression and I can honestly say I haven\'t lost a pound. But I\'ve been told the WLS won\'t be affected by the prozac nor will my prozac be affected. Best wishes to you.

I was on prozac presurgery and actually gained 40 pounds on it. My daughter did also. So did my best friend. I am now on it again after surgery and find that even though I am well at goal, I am losing about a pound a week now for some reason. Maybe my body changed, I don\'t know but it hasn\'t certainly, made me gain since surgery. hope this helps and merry Christmas

Some people lost 20 lbs. on Prozac, but once they get used to it they level off. Me ... I gained BIG TIME while on Prozac and will not get back on that one. After you\'ve been on it a long time you can start gaining weight (per my therapist).

I have been on every diet and never lost more than 5 lbs. I went on Prozac for other reasons and dropped 25lbs.like butter. I wanted to exercise for the 1st time in my life. I gained 80 lbs. on Celexa, Zoloft
