Question:
how much sugar can one tolerate?
I'm 8 weeks out and have'nt tried much sugar,I did have some bbq chicken and figured I had about 3 grams with no problem, most everthing I eat is sugar free, but somethings I like have real sugar.I wonder how many grams one could have without dumping, I know everone is different, but some idea would help. thanks Kelly — kelly K. Hi Kelly, I personally found through trial and error, that I can tolerate
approx 12 gms of sugar at one time, and no more...one time I tried 18 gms
and dumped...good luck!

Hi Kelly, they say the average we can take in is 7 to 12 grams of sugar. I
have a BIG recommendation for you... do not test what your limit is!!! I
found out I do not dump on sugar and God, how I wish I did. I am able to
eat anything and that is a challenge. Its is much easier to eat a couple of
cookies rather than eat the beef or chicken (protein) I should be eating. I
am four months out and have lost 63 pounds with the LAP RNY but I am
positive I could have lost a lot more. I was one who DEVELOPED a tolorance
for sugar. Sometimes I would get the sweats... but the more I tried the
easier it got. PLEASE, limit yourself from the very beginning and don't try
to push it. Best of luck.

I shoot for 6g per MEAL. I CAN tolerate more, but then again, I did it,
too and promptly gained 6# in 2 weeks. Went back to the 6g limit (not
matter how I FELT--"fine") and the 6# dropped off. I now that's
not much, but when you have not moved for 5 yrs, it's pretty scary to
suddenly start packing it on again. And I KNEW what was doing it. 14g per
shot. You'd think one would outgrow stupid one day, wouldn't you? I dunno,
maybe I'm one that doesn't get smarter as I get older. Don't ask me why I
thought I could outsmart what I've seen happen to everyone else who started
dating sugar on a casual basis.

I suspect I have no limits to how much sugar I can eat, except the limits I
impose on myself. It all started with an innocent little (Hershey's)
kiss...I have to make sure it doesn't turn into a full blown affair!
Flirting with sugar will slow down your weight loss. Gasp, you could even
GAIN weight, if you aren't careful. I look at sugar like I do fats: I
save sugar for my coffee and stay away from goodies. I save fat for
mayonnaise, light sour cream and cheese and stay away from fast food and
deep fried and fried foods. Be careful and good luck!
