Question:
Eating...... everything makes me sick

Howmany go through these times when you DONT want to eat, or CANT eat? I am at that point now. It seems like everything I put in my mouth, makes me sick. I AM going through a lot with a sick child, but this happens even when he is OK. Any ideas?    — Donna A. (posted on March 9, 2005)

Hey Donna, I don't know how far out you are, but I am a month post op, and I went through THE SAME THING! My doctor (who by the way is the greatest, really). He gave me a medicine called CARAFATE, IT SAVED ME. YOu take it about 6 weeks four times a day, it is in a liquid form. I tell u as soon as I took the stuff I felt better. The medicine coats your pouch, so you can be able to eat and in my case I had a tiny ulcer that is why I couldn't eat. We all know if you don't eat you will not lose weight. I didn't eat for almost a month. So ask your Doc about that medicine, I promise you will feel much better. Also ask him about antacides, sounds like your tummy is producing lots of acid, just like mine was. So I hope I helped, because I didn't know what the heck was going on, thank GOD for my doc because I asked everyone. K.I.T, JESSICA

Thanks guys for the words of advice. I am however, almost 2 years post-op. Maybe it will kick in again soon...Well not like pre-op ~winks~ but just so I want to eat. Yesterday about 6pm I ate about a half of a kids steak and a few bites of slaw. That was it all day. Today (its 12:41pm) and I have ate nothing. I get hungry, I just dont want to eat...Odd huh?

Donna, I am I am almost 21 mos. out and I find that I have periods of time where I just don't want to eat because it doesn't appeal to me. I don't get nauseated, just don't feel like eating. On days like this I may not eat very much, but I make sure that I drink a protein drink or two so I can still get in my protein, and I drink a lot of water. I find that within a few days I will go through a period where I am hungry all the time, and then I eat every two or three hours (small amounts). I think this is my body's way of making up for those days that I did not eat enough. If I could survive on water alone and never eat again I honestly would. Eating is not the pleasure it used to be, I just do it because I have to. I have been at goal since I was one year out and so far I am maintaining. Hang in there.
