Question:
Does anyone know the doctor's cost in wls?
My insurance company will pay the hospital portion 100% because I am a hospital employee. The surgeon I have in mind doesn't participate with my insurance. I will end up paying my deductible and 30-40% of his fees. I would like to know how much those fees would be? — liberty317 (posted on February 23, 2005)

Your best bet is to call billing at your hospital! They can give you a
nearly exact amount!

The best thing to do is to discuss this with your prospective surgeon. My
surgeon billed Aetna $7,200 for my surgery (the hospital billed $72,000 for
my operation and stay) - now how much Aetna paid both the surgeon and
hospital is a matter between the two of them. I asked Aetna and they told
me that they cannot reveal their contracted-for amounts of
reimbursement...JR

I would just call the doctor's office and ask them directly. My doctor
charged $3000 for the Lap RNY so as you can see, it does vary from place to
place and doctor to doctor.

I would definitely ask your surgeon. They should be able to give you the
cost. Ask them also about the cost of the assistant. My surgeon's fee is
$6,000 and assistant is $1,200.

My surgeons fees were under $7000. I cannot give you an exact figure
because he asked me not to tell people. Medicaid paid for my
hospitalization and preop tests...also anesthesia.

My surgeon charged $8,000 (I'm self-pay) and it covers his assistant also.
I just had surgery on 2/21 and that is his going rate. Good Luck.
