Well, with pain, I'd call my doc. Meanwhile, I can say that Pericolace
(sp?) was very helpful for me in that situation. But if this persists, you
gotta find a way to get more fiber in your diet. I found Benefiber helped
a little (Fibercon, not at all, for me), but nothing worked until I ate
All-Bran cereal every morning. I know, it's carb-y -- but it worked when
nothing else was doing the job. Good luck!

I don't know if this will work for you, but coffee does it for me every
time! Must be the caffeine.

If nothing helps and it's an emergency, you COULD do an enema. It's the
nastiest thing in the world, but I was so desperate and in pain after my
reconstructive surgery (the pain pills kept me from going for 11 days!!)
and trying everything else (colace, suppositories, MOM, prune juice,
metamucil), that the doctor recommended this. Major yuck, but it worked.

I tried everything, I even had prescriptions, but nothing, and I mean
nothing worked. I increased my water, my activity and added extra fiber.
I couldn't even work up gas. I thought my colon had died on me. Then I
read that sugar-free jelly bellies worked and I got some and voila, magic
time. It made me feel normal again. I take about a half ounce a day with
a large glass of water and make sure I chew, chew chew. It is the only
thing I have found since surgery that works without nausea and pain. Good
luck. I know how you feel. My constipation was so awful that I actually
thought about going to the bathroom with an ice pick and a hand grenade -
Ha!

Milk of Magnesia! It works like a charm for me. I would check with your
specific doctor to be sure he/she is all right with this. But trust me
even though the bottle says 30 mins to 12 hrs to work it doesn't take that
long.

I would use an enema right now. I try to eat a couple dried prunes eachday
to keep me regualr, and since I started that have had no problems. Plus,
they are sweet, something different in my day. Good luck.

Have you tried a stool softener/colace/ ducosate sodium? Worth a try, and
gentle for post-ops.

I also think and enema may be in order - it's no fun but you'll be glad you
did it. You may also want to check with your doc about a daily stool
softener. Another thing - if you don't supplement protein daily you might
try a morning protein supplement - lots of my patients say this get
everything moving for them. You can also use sugar free Fiber Choice
Wafers from Wal Mart each day. In desperation you can you a small spoonful
of mag citrate. Once you get relief you need to concentrate of finding
something - ANYTHING - that will keep you from getting this way again. I
know, I suffered with this for over a year and my doctor finally put me on
two Colace per day and my whole life changed. Whew! Hang in there!

Have you tried Senokot? it's a natural laxative and it also comes in a
syrup form. Works pretty good.

Once you get past this episode with the pain try eating some popcorn every
day. A few cups a day and its a great natural laxative and a good snack.

Coffee and a cigarette! Okay, only kidding. At one time that was my daily
routine. I was constipated and took MOM (it worked after 2nd dose), told
the surgeon and he said, next time use a sopository. So, there you have
it! Good luck...I hope you go go go!!

I personally have found Fleet Babylax liquid glycerin squirters to work the
best. If you are really stopped up however, you may require a larger enema
to "break things up", perhaps even further measures. Too gross
to go into, but I'm sure you get the general idea!
