Question:
I just got an offer for a free issue of a new WLS magazine.
I am wondering if anyone else has gotten this offer and if they know anything about it. I was instructed in an email to go to www.wlslifestyles.com and sign up to receive the first issue of a new WLS magazine. It sounds like it could be a good thing. Anyone else? — Carol S. I wish I knew more about this. I deleted the questionnaire request. Where
are they getting our names. I know this site does not sell it's list nor
permit others to use their list for commercial purposes. I know longer
trust anything I receive by e-mail. Sorry, but until I know who, what,
when and where by a realiable source, I won't participate.

On Spotlight Health they were talking about this, and some people are
certain it's all a hoax to get your personal info. I don't know one way or
the other, but maybe you could go to www.spotlighthealth.com and look up
the posts...

We would like thank everyone who took the time out of their busy schedules
to complete the WLS Lifestyles survey as well as those of you who referred
fellow WLS pre and post operative patients to the site. The response we
received was overwhelming with just over 7,000 of you responding in a 72
hour period.
Because of your incredible and passionate response, we are excited to
officially announce the launch of the first-ever WLS patient focused
magazine, WLS Lifestyles magazine, Focusing on the needs of the pre and
post operative weight loss surgery community.
WLS Lifestyles will feature fact-based articles written by
Physicians/Surgeons, Dietician/Nutritionists, Psychologists and other
industry professionals that cover a wide range of topics unique to both the
pre and post operative WLS community. Each quarterly issue will feature
articles covering Pre-Operative Issues, Post-Operative Success Habits,
Cooking Recipes, Nutritional Advice, Exercise, Plastic Surgery, Before
& After Success Stories and much more.

When that survey was sent out to people, there was a post from the
moderators. As Fay said, the site does not sell or give away any
information about its members. However, you need to remember that anyone
can read anything on this board, whether they are a member or not. I know
it would be very tedious, but they might have just gone through profiles,
taking emails addresses from them. I got the survey and went to the
website, but didn't feel comfortable answering because there was no
identifying information there. Think I'll go look at the Spotlight Health
website. If this is legit, I'd like to at least read an issue or two.

I am usually skeptical, but it doesn't require any credit card info, so I
signed up for it too. I also changed one of the numbers in my phone number
just in case. I would be very interested in a magazine made just for us.
But that's just my opinion, to each their own.

there are programs called spambots that can harvest hundreds of e-mail
addresses from any web site in less than a second. since i joined here, i
have gotten more than two dozen solicitations for protein supplements,
diets, magazines, etc. it is my policy NEVER to respond to spam -- it only
encourages more spam. but that's just me.

I tend to be very skeptical too, especially with the massive amounts of
spam I receive daily, much of it very offensive junk. However, if this is
true, I would imagine that lots of us would love to subscribe. Hopefully
if people start receiving their free issue, they will comment on it here at
this site and on the others and that will be proof of legitimacy for the
rest of us skeptics.

We received e-mails from this company also and deleted them without opening
them. Why? Because they were sent to an e-mail address that we have NEVER
used on this site. We've kept this very private. We're assuming that they
harvested it off of Yahoo! Groups, as we used our main e-mail for our local
on-line support group for a brief period of time. We have a junkmail
filter through MSN and have no idea how it got through.

Do you want to know where they may have gotten your e-mail addresses from?
Check out http://www.wlslifestyles.com and click on the Editorial
Advisory Board link to find two of the members - Rona P. Scott and Linda
Almonte - both AMOS members. Coincidence??? I'd like to see Rona and
Linda come forth and unequivocably state that they did not use their status
as AMOS members to harvest e-mail addresses from this site for use in this
commercial venture. BTW, I am still waiting for that free issue...JR
