Question:
Is it okay to take precription diet pills after WLS?
I am all most 5 years post op. I know it is not okay to take certain medications after WLS but I don't know about diet pills. Does anyone out there know if it is okay? Thanks any help is appreciated. — paintnmynails (posted on November 18, 2002)

A friend at my work had her surgery 2 years ago, and a year after surgery,
the surgeon perscribed meridia to her. ( She was gaining weight back)

Tina, each person is different, some people cannot take diet pills even if
they have not had surgery! I would ask my doctor what he/she thinks. Even
if some can take them, not all can and you may be able to while the next
person can't. This is a case where I think only you and your doctor can
make this decision! Just my 2 cents. God Bless!

Tina,
Why do you want to take diet pills? I would definately talk to your doctor
before trying them. Most diet pills contain epherdra which is dangerous for
the average person. With our reduced absorbtion, it might make it even more
dangerous for us. I would really suggest strongly you speak with your pcp
or WLS surgeon before trying it.
Good luck
