Question:
Any one had upper arm surgery?
Have any of you long term post op folk had surgery to remove excess skin on your upper arms. What did it entail...any pain... how much did it cost...is there scaring???? I'm seriously considering it. I have some serious flab in that area now and when I lose that last 30lbs., I'll probably have even more. It's really starting to bother me. — margaret N. (posted on July 11, 2001)

I saw the arms of a woman who had it done many years ago.
It did'nt look to good to me. But I may have to have it done in 12 months
or so, IF it's covered. I would never have
the money to pay for it. I thought the scars looked quite bad. At least
her's did.

I plan on having it done but I'm still preop...6 days til surgery. I'm
sure plastic surgery has improved over the years along with many other
medical procedures. We just have to make sure we check out the surgeon and
preferably one who's patients you can see and talk to postop. I'm also
curious to know of people's experiences who've already had it done.

I had the arm surgery just 4 months ago.. It was great the scars are not
pretty but my arms are great.. makes all of me look better I think!! No
problems with the surgery alsohad my inner thighs lift done at the same
time and the "batwings" are gone I have NORMAL looking arms and
NO excess flab. The worst part of the surgery was I tended to forget my
surgery and when you lift your arms too high it tends to ache.. Good luck!!

I did it and it was great. I had it done on a Tuesday and went to a meeting
on Friday. The first two days were painful - easily controlled by meds -
and after that I was fine. My arms look incredible. The incision from
armpit to elbow was never more than a thin pink line and it has now faded
to NOTHING. If you email me privately I will send you a link to my pics. I
am the arm lift poster child on my surgeon's website. Cost me $4100 and it
was worth every penny. hugs, Ann rny 9/10/99 260/124

I had my arms done on 9/25/03. I found it to be quite painful - like I had
a severe sunburn - and it felt like that for more than a week. The scars go
from arm pit to elbow, and also across my armpits (forming a T). The scars
in my arm pits are fading quite nicely. The scar on one arm is also fading
well, but the scar on the other arm started to swell, and looks like it
will remain much thicker than the other. I planned my surgery so that the
worst of the scaring would be during the winter, when I was wearing long
sleeves. I may use a scar concealer in the spring when short sleeve season
is back in swing. My surgeon does his best to talk people out of this
surgery - he even did it right up to the morning of surgery, when he was
drawing on my body. He says almost everyone is unhappy with the scaring,
and he considers it the most imperfect of all plastic surgeries. Yet, he
felt in my case (and others who had lost a lot of weight) it was a fair
tradeoff (scar for flab). He is thrilled with the results and feels my
arms look better than even he anticipated. I paid $6000 out of pocket -
didn't even try to get insurance approval as it's truly a cosmetic
procedure. I decided on the procedure after attending a concert and
noticed that even after I had stopped applauding, my arms were still
"swinging" - and that was with wearing a short sleeve top. I had
other procedures done, and became severely anemic from loss of blood, so I
was out of work for 2 and a half weeks (should have been longer, but I was
going stir crazy at home). But if I had just had my arms done, I probably
could have gone back to work after a few days (no lifting though - I have a
desk job).

"Hi"
Yes, I had my arms tucked 10/10/03 by Dr. Gregory Combs in Portland Oregon.
He charged $3000 which I payed out of pocket. It was painful as there are
alot of nerves in the under arm area. Yet I would do it again. I am very
pleased with my outcome. He did a great job of sculpting my arms. I do
now have under arm scars from arm pit to below the elbow. As I am past 50
& lost 240# I had ALOT of lose skin & a minimal scar is way better
than all that flabby skin was. Eve Grace

7/20/04 I had my arms and legs lifted at the same time 1 week ago. I lost
200# and am thrilled with the result even this soon out. Although it was
alot of surgery at one time with help I am better every day. I also had
the over the bra skin removed so my scar runs from my slbow to mid flank,
it is not too tight he changed the incision direction so it wouldnt be too
tight to lift my arms. My legs are still very swollen but the hang is
gone. he also lipo my knees so I wouldnt look knckkneed. It cost me $2000
out of pocket the insurance paid for the thigh lift.

Hi, I had a lower body lift with a full abdominoplasty and brachioplasty on
8/12/04. This brachiplasty caused me more discomfort than the lower body
lift but I would do it again in a heartbeat! My surgeon was Dr. Geoffrey
Fenner in Evanston, IL. He rocks! Did an awesome job. Arms like a teenager!
I won't lie it was painful for me!
