Question:
Anyone have info on using Adderall XR after a RnY?
My MD is hesitant to write an Rx unless I can give her the name(s) of someone post op who is taking it. Thanks in advance for any info! Joseph Michaud post-op 1 week today! — Ice_Ohio (posted on June 30, 2004)

Joseph; I don't think we are allowed extended release medications of any
kind but I would suggest you post this question on the main message board
and you might get alot more response. Good luck!

Joseph, you can not take any extended release medications after RNY due to
the malabsorbtion factor. I had to stop my Effexor XR and change to
regular effexor.

I have been on adderall for a month and a half now. I am 6 months post op.
I have to take strong pain meds for a brain condition and they leave me
very groggy and sleepy. I take adderall to help stay awake. Has not
bothered me at all and works great.

lol sorry for 2nd post but just read what others have said about xtended
release meds. just to let u know both my meds i take are extended release
and both work exactly as they are supposed to. i take oxycontin, it is
time released, and the adderall is also timed release. My doc assures me
timed release meds work just fine.

Hi. Congrats on your new life!!! I have been taking wellbutrin and ritalin
since before my WLS.... Had to switch from time released wellbutrin to
immediate release...but the ritalin time release effectiveness has not
changed - still works great! - my understanding (from my psychiatrist) is
that there are different kinds of 'time release' drugs - they work in
different areas of the brain...blah blah blah... in other words, our WLS
may or may nor affect the effectiveness of the drug. It depends on the
drug...
I have no idea how Adderall XL vs Ritalin LA compare....
