Question:
What is the difference between an Extended Abdominoplasty,
Standard Abdominoplasty, and mini abdominoplasty? — Hackett (posted on March 22, 2004)

I'm not sure what a mini abdominoplasty would include. Standard
abdominoplasty would have an incision from hip to hip. The extended
abdominoplasty would have an incision that goes past the hip bones and
would include lateral thigh lift.Hope this helps.

Lateral thigh lift is not included in any abdominoplasty unless they are
being done together which constitutes a lower body lift.
<p>A mini abdominoplasty may not have a vertical incision and also
typically does not need to lift the skin above the navel and pull down. A
regular abdominoplasty usually lifts the skin all the way up, tightens the
muscles, pulls everything down and uses a hip-to-hi incision. It may also
use a vertical incision typically to the belly button, but sometimes
higher. An extended abdominoplasty has the horizontal incision going past
the sides and partly around the back to pick up the roll over the hips.
There is also a full extended abdominoplasty, which I had, which cuts 360
degrees. Butt crack to butt crack. Mine was done more so because I also
had the lateral thigh lift at the same time. There are different procedure
codes for each version.

The surgeon who gave me an opinion 1 year ago suggested I just needed a
mini because he didn't feel I needed muscle repair or skin pulled above the
belly button. I went to another surgeon this year and he definitely could
feel about 2-3 inches of disrupted muscle which he will repair and he will
be pulling me in every direction. So in 5 weeks I will have a full
abdominoplasty ( and a breast lift)
