Question:
Consume 800 cal, Burn 400 with excersise a day?

I went back for a nutrition consult (my choice) at 12 weeks post op to make sure I was on track.. What she told me was to lower my protein intake back down to 60-65 gms a day, increase my water, and take in around 800 calories and excersise to burn 400 of them a day, not counting normal activites...was wondering if this sounded a little extreme to anyone other than myself... note: I have a hard time with dizziness, and no energy at 900 cal, and have been excersising to burn 300-400 6 days a week and 200-300 1 day a week.... any opinions would be greatly appreciated...thanks and GOD BLESS each and every one on you!    — Kalli R. I am no expert but this sounds very extreme to me. I would think that that would be close to starvation. Your BMR, basis metabolic rate, is higher than that and it sounds like you would start burning muscle if you burn so much more than you comsume. If you send me your email address I will send you a BMR calculator.

Yes it does sound extreme to me, I went back to my nutritianist also after 3 months post op and she told me I should be taking in about 1200 calories a day if I excersise and 900 on days I dont. (Im 5'10) She told me to eat a balanced diet with about 65 grams and up to 80 on days I work out. On days I work out, I am very hungry if I dont get enough calories, and I have been keeping track of them on fitday.com. Basically she said listen to your body, if it is telling you you need more, then eat, but make sure you are not eating high fat/sugar foods and are keeping track of your calories.

It is extreme and it's not healthy for you. You will burn more than 800 calories by just being alive and not moving at all. I had the same problems when I started working out hard. What kind of exercises are you doing? Cardio? Weights? For how long per day? Is your nutritionist experienced with WLS patients? Most WLS patients do not go all-out with the exercise, so you may have to compromise between the advice given to you by a nutritionist and a personal trainer. You need to eat properly to continue to exercise and lose weight without hurting yourself. Feel free to email me. Also do a search of the Q&A section under "too much exercise"-- there are a few questions like yours and the answers are informative. I think it's fabulous that you're exercising-- good luck!
