Question:
I've got the flu.. my temp is 102.2... will it kill me to take ibuprofen?
tylenol isn't cutting it, and I'm miserable. :( — Michelle J. (posted on December 20, 2003)

When I was just one week post-op I developed pneumonia. My surgeon
prescribed liquid motrin for the abd muscle pain from coughing. Because it
is liquid it gets absorbed quickley and does not sit in the pouch and eat
at the lining. Also, when my son spikes a high temp we always alternate
motrin and tylenol every three hours. It keeps the fever down and stops
the spiking. (I would use liquid of both) Hope you feel better soon.

My doctor says No to Ibuprofen, and I have read here from people here that
have taken it say it was painful. Call your doctor and ask then what they
recomend for you to take.

Definitely a no-no! You stomach is so small, that it can eat through the
stomach lining and give you a horrible ulcer.

I wouldn't suggest it. I didn't think about it and took some ibuprofen
about a month ago and end up with the worst stomach pain. My family doctor
quickly determined that I was getting an ulcer and put me on ulcer medicine
and it healed real quick, but definitely wasn't worth the pain.

I take Ibuprofen every time I have my period for cramps. My Dr said it is
fine, but not to overdue. Occasional use is ok. I have no probelms with
it.

I take Advil for cramps etc. If you don't over do, don't have an ulcer you
will be fine. Get the liquid caps of advil, they dissolve faster. But
don't break them open the taste is horrible.....Feel Better.

There were a couple of things my surgeon stressed prior to surgery. One was
I should never take ibuprofen, motrin, aspirin ever again. The other was,
I need to commit to taking multi-vitamins for the rest of my life. If these
things were not important they would not have been stressed.

It will not kill you to take ibuprofen. Like others said, just don't overdo
it, and try to eat a little something when you take it. I take a regular
adult dose whenever I have overdone it with my workout or whatever, and
have never had a problem. Like many others, taking tylenol does absolutely
nothing for me. My surgeon has no problem with me taking this, or even
Vioxx, but I don't take it every day. He is the head of endoscopic and
laparoscopic surgery at a major teaching hospital, so I think he has seen
the insides of enough stomachs (and pouches) to be able to tell meI can
take this, (he scopes every RNY patient before they leave the OR.)

I take ibu for arthritic back pain, however, I'm not advocating it for you
:>) That said, a good home remedy for a fever is cool clothes (not
cold) placed on the back of your neck, behind the knees, armpits and
forehead. These are the points that we hit on people in the nursing home
to bring down fevers on patients and it really helps!

My Doc allows it... if I take it with Maalox... and not often... probably
in the last 18 months I've done it twice when my cramps were bad.
Call your doctor's office.
