Question:
Almost 4 wks post-op and the smell of most foods make me nauseous.

i had Lap band on 8-12-03 and am now on a pureed diet, the first 10 days after surgery i dropped 27 lbs off of my liquid diet. since then i have dropped 3 more lbs going from 378 to 349 i am very pleased with the weight loss but eating is not a pleasure for me anymore, just the smell of most foods nauseates me. i have no problems keeping down my foods, my dietician said most foods i could eat at this point as long as it was pureed. i have been craving coconut shrimp, but i could not imagine pureeing it. would this be a healthy choice? and when would be a safe time to eat it? what are some foods to eat at this stage? i,m getting very bored with the foods i,m eating. scrambled eggs, applesauce, cottage cheese, soups etc. any comments would be appreciated. Pureed or soft foods? My doc had cottage cheese and scambled eggs in the soft food category not pureed category. Anyway... One item in my pureed category was refried beans. Old El Paso makes a "non fat" brand (my husband wants to know how they label it "refried" if it doesn't have fat). I would put that on a plate and sprinkle it with shredded cheese, then heat it in the microwave for a few minutes. A dollup of low-fat sour cream and I was in heaven :-)

I am also 4 weeks post-op and on soft foods, I had cooked shrimp with cocktail sauce the other night for dinner. I just had to chew the shrimp until it was mush, but shrimp is on my list of soft foods. You can not have breaded or deep fried shrimp, ever, but cooked, broiled or mariented are fine.

Hi! Go to my second profile and you will find lots of diet help there, okay! Lots of suggestions... I started at 378, too (5'6") and lost 212 lbs in 18 months on the diet I posted! :~) That coconut shrimp has too many carbs this early out, for you! Try just boiled or broiled shrimp for now, okay? I eat coconut shrimp at 20 months out... some things are worth the wait, okay! :~) Again, look at my profile... lots of recipes and ideas!! :~) Hugs and email me if you have questions, okay! :~)

You might try a frozen LeCarb dessert it comes in lots of flavors. V8 juice also is real good for you. You also can use ricotta cheese and sweeten with splenda and put either cocoa, vanilla or lime/ lemon juice to flavor! Your weight loss is great. I had a open vbg and my weight loss was about the same as yours. Good luck.
