Question:
DO YOU FEEL TIRED AFTER EATING FOODS WITH CARBS?

I have become more consious about how I feel after eating certain foods and I have noticed that if I eat something with cards (not everything, but many carb foods) I feel very tired and fatigued about 15-30 minutes later. It wears off in about 20minutes or less. Has anyone else noticed this?    — mdjacobs (posted on July 3, 2003)

I used to get the sugar sleepies really bad! I almost fell off the back of a motorcycle! But it is a little better now-

I get that way too.. sometimes! If it's possible, I sit for a few mins and rest and I bounce back in about 15 mins. It has been suggested that is a mild form of dumping. I see it as my carb gage... I know where I have to stop when eating the "offending food".... best of luck to you!

YES! And I have found that it's the white carbs, the starcy foods like potatos, rice, pasta, bread, etc., that do this to me. Vegetables and fruit don't affect me unless I eat too much fruit and I rarely do that. I try to avoid the carbs that bother me.

Sounds like a mild form of dumping to me.

I dump on foods high in carbs even some good ones. I also dump on sugar and fats so its getting limited to what I can eat other than just protein. I've given up white carbs but I *HAVE* to have my fruit and veggies. I feel crappy if I eat too many so I have to watch my intake. I do want to find a good balance of foods so I will be seeing the dietitian (sp?) next week. ~Sidney~ Open RNY 10-23-02 down 100+ and counting

I think it must be a form of dumping too. I cannot eat a bowl of cereal (unsweetened) without feeling the need to go back to bed. Too bad, I love cereal but not worth feeling like that.

See if you can find/borrow any diet book on Adkins or Carb Addicts. It explains what happens when you eat carbs. It's pretty interesting stuff.

I got lethargic after eating carbs even pre-op! Then I'd get REALLY hungry again. I avoid carbs like the plague!

Yes! Both pre and post op. Only my tiredness does'nt wear off... I stay tired for several hours after eating carbs.

I can remember vividly the day it "hit" me that eating pancakes with syrup (double carb whammy) hyped me up for about 30 minutes after eating it and then I crashed with no energy the rest of the day (pre-op). Amazing what those little buggers do to a bod!

yes! dumping doesn't always manifest itself the same way for everyone. i get a killer headache and just have to crash,. my heartrate goes through the roof and i'm so dizzy it practically paralyzes me. if i sugar-binge on something, sometimes i get so sick that my skin feels like it's on fire. (can you tell i'm a food addict? this has happened to me several times but i keep falling off the no-carb wagon. what can i say.. i'm a slow learner.) anyway, no wonder carbs are bad for you. (but why do they have to taste so good?) ;)

I notice this big time!! I can't stand eating carbs in the morning, or I want to fall asleep at the wheel. I've found no carbs in the morning, veggies at lunch, and fruit at dinner (of course after I eat my protien) works the best. I also stick to whole wheat or multi grain if I want some carbs. If I have anthing with "white" carbs, I yawn and feel like I'm going to sleep under my desk for a few hours LOL!!. If I need a sedative, I have a few bites of white bread or rice.
