Question:
When will water taste the same as it did pre-op?
Pre-op, I drank water all the time and loved it! I mean really enjoyed the taste of it. I am 3 mos post op and water still does not taste the same to me. I miss enjoying it. I can't drink plain water and always have to mix something with it to "mask" the taste. Anyone else? When does it change? — Lisa I. (posted on April 26, 2003)

I would say it took about four or five months for me. I felt the same way
as you in the begining. Now I can chig a bottle of spring water in about a
minute flat and it tastes normal.

I drank over 64 oz a day of water preop. I have spring water delivered
because I drank so much of it and it was a pain lugging it home from the
store. Since surgery on 1/7 it doesn't taste the same and it hurts going
down. I try to get my liquids in but I drink very little water each day.
I'm lucky if I get 32 oz in. I truly hope this clears up soon. I miss it
as well.

For the first three to four months not only did water not taste good but my
own saliva tasted different and "felt weird. This is gross but there
is always some mucous mixed with your saliva to lubricate your mouth.
During that time it was very watery-and tasted "different.

Hi, I also use to drink water all of the time before my surgery, and now I
am 3 months post-op too. and I can't stand to drink water hardley at all. I
just now drink sugar-free drinks and diet caffiene-free pop. Hopefully this
will change soon. I was told that as long as get plenty of other fluids in
you are still okay, but it would be nice to drink water again though. good
luck to you.
