Question:
25 days post op and I can chug water.. Is this normal?
I'm only 25 days post op and I can do mini-guzzling (6-7 good size swallows nonstop) of water. On one hand I'm glad I can guzzle although I couldn't at 2 weeks out. On the other hand, I'm afraid that my pouch has stretched out or maybe a rupture? Anyone else out there able to guzzle water so early? — John T. (posted on March 16, 2003)

I am 6 weeks out and have been able to drink pretty normal for about 3
weeks. I found in week 2 that if I switched to drinking from a glass that
it got rid of the belching and allowed me to take in a lot more water. I
now can drink out of a bottle again.
<p>What I find is that if I haven't drank anything for a while I need
to take a smaller drink first, sort of like to get my pouch ready for the
flood. Then if I drink a lot (probably classified as chug) it goes down
much better. If I don't take the smaller drink first then I suffer as the
large quantity of liquid hits the pouch and works it was into it. Strange
but if I follow my pouch's drinking rule I can drink away. I can drink a
16 oz diet snapple pretty quickly.

I was able to do mini-chugs at about 3 weeks post-op. Up until that point,
it almost hurt to drink, but once I hit 3 weeks post-op, I could drink much
faster and much more in general. Good luck to you.

i am now four months post op but at about two months out i could do as you
say chug a 12 oz can of minute maid lite or diet brisk tea in two gulps.
drink, drink, drink breath, drink,drink,drink...can gone. i think as your
pouch gets over the shock of surgery you can drink more and i think it
pretty much kinda runs through. i dunno? open distal rny 11/12/02 -70lbs
