Question:
Looking for a WLS friendly PCP in RI.
I have HMO Blue of New England and need a referral from my PCP for a consult with a surgeon. I know I'm getting ahead of myself here, but I have a feeling my PCP will not support surgery. If that happens, I'd be willing to switch to one who would. Also, does anyone know if Blue Cross requires a letter approving the surgery from your PCP, or if I just need the PCP to give me the referral? So, if you're from Rhode Island, and been approved for WLS - do you mind telling me who your PCP is? — sandsonik (posted on March 16, 2002)

I AM 11 MONTHS POST-OP. I HAD NO TROUBLE WHATSOEVER GETTING A REFERRAL FROM
MY PCP, WHICH IS REQUIRED BY MY HEALTH INSURANCE. IM WENT TO HIM AND
SIMPLY STATED THE FACTS ABOUT HOW I HAVE DONE ALL THE DIETS, EXERCISE,
HEALTHCLUB MEMBERSHIPS ETC. AND HOW IT WAS SERIOUSLY AFFECTING MY QUALITY
OF LIFE. IALSO MADE SURE HE KNEW THAT I HAD DONE ALOT OF RESEARCH ON WLS
AND WAS NOT JUST LOOKING FOR A "QUICK FIX". I WOULD BE GLAD TO
GIVE YOU HIS NAME AND THE NAME OF MY SURGEON. FEEL FREE TO EMAIL ME. I HOPE
THIS ANSERS YOUR QUESTION.
