Question:
I know this may sound dumb...
I'm 3 1/2 weeks post op and my doctor has me on a liquid diet for 6 weeks. I have become addicted to drinking pickle juice! I know that the sodium will cause me to retain fluid, but it's like the only "treat" I have. Does anyone know if this can be harmful to my pouch? — Shana C. (posted on February 13, 2002)

What kind of pickle juice? Dill, Sweet, Sour, Bread & Butter?

I remember wanting something sour at exactly your stage. I drank the lemon
lime gatorade as this gave me just the right "sourness". I
mentioned this to my doctor and he said that this is extremely common. For
some reason our taste buds need that non-sweet taste and often that leads
to something sour. In fact, he used your "craving" as an example.
He told me of a woman that drank pickle juice to satisfy this craving. LOL!
I wouldn't worry too much about the sodium, as you are having so little
otherwise that I couldn't imagine it would be a problem. My surgeon didn't
mention that there could be a problem with the pouch. Enjoy! Shelley

I can remember at 1 week post op craving lemonade. I just had to have it.
Oh, and tomatoes. I can't explaine it because I really don't eat tomatoes
or drink lemonade, but I was really craving them two things.

I'm 3 weeks post op and I'm craving cinnamon and beetroot. Not together,
because yucko! <br>
Maybe you're just wanting it for now because your body needs it.
